Oh No I Bought A Mossberg Rifle

It was a close call between the Ruger American and the Mossberg Patriot in 308. They are both fine shooters and reasonably priced too boot. They both have a 'Compact' or 'Bantom' size stock with a shorter barrel that I like. The American has an 18.5" barrel and the Patriot has a 20" barrel. They both have composite stocks but only the Patriot has a Walnut stock available for only a little more money and still less than the American. That's what sold me. Shame on me. :cry:

Can a factory wood CF American rifle be far behind ?

I've been shooting and buying bolt action rifles since 1968 when I bought my first new rifle, a M70 Winchester in 30-06. I had to work all summer to get that. Since then I've bought, shot ,and sold or traded numerous M70's, M700's, and M77's in just about any caliber one could mention, including a 416 Remington M70. There is a lot of call for one of those in Louisiana! My most recent purchase after several months of trying to find one is a Mossberg Patriot in 375 Ruger with the walnut stock. I found the 416 a little to powerful for Louisiana. As an avid reloader and experimenter, I've been excited about the 375 Ruger cartridge since it's introduction. I've found the Patriot to bee every bit as good a rifle as those previously mentioned and less that half of what a M77 in 375 costs. I wish Mossberg would make some in 6.5 CM, 260, 280, 338 Federal, and, of course, 358 Winchester. Until then, I'll have to get by with my M77's, #1, and Brownings in those calibers. Bob! :mrgreen:
