Just a reminder.... Today is the 52nd anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas.

Seems to be not worthy of notice on the internet in general this morning...but hey, Charlie Sheen has aids!

Lunch hour, senior year.... unconfirmed report he had been shot. Physics class (the next hour)... confirmation that he was killed.

8th grade English class when the announcement came over the loudspeaker.

Junior Coll, I had the mail run that day (post office then to "mail boxes" in
the student union), heard it as I came down the stairs with the mail bag.
Sorted the mail, put in boxes, and then drove 150 miles home. Stayed home
until the following Monday.

With the exception of a few gals screaming OMG!, OMG!, OMG! the entire
campus was quiet. Not . . . a . . . sound.

Hi,

Freshman in high school, just walked in our English class when the teacher told us the news the President had been shot. He was always joking about strange things, and at first we thought he was doing it again, but he made it a point of telling us this was NO joke. A few minutes later the announcement came over the PA system... JFK had just died, and we were being sent home early. Our campus was as silent as Pat's! The next few days were hard to explain, except to call them a blur which remains crystal clear to this day, if that makes any sense.

I was working out of Rosenburg Texas. We got rained out and I went back to my hotel room. The old lady that owned it told us and then wrung her hands and cried, "What will people think of Texas now? Surprisingly I heard the same concern repeatedly from others for the next few days.

13 and home sick from school. Mom was next door for coffee. I remember calling her and saying there was nothing on TV but Kennedy getting shot.

A rifle with a loose scope, Down hill at 200 yards with the target moving away, and a "shooter" that barely qualified in the Marine Corp.
Lots of doubt that the rifle involved could be made to fire the number of shots fired in the time recorded.

8th grade lunch time we were told. As Pam points out Oswald was a fall guy IMO. I have heard it said many times, that Kennedy was killed in Texas for the benefit of a Texan. No real proof of course. It was a sad day. America was Shocked to say the least. Some said CIA, others KGB, Cuba, the Catholic Church did it. In other words no one really knew. A lot of grasping at straws.

Kind of hard to forget for me. Was on duty at the Waldorf Md. Nike Hercules site. Immediately upon hearing it our 'readiness status' jumped a notch.

9th grade algebra class... Very somber Mr. Flynn, our teacher. We sat in silence after the announcement was made. At the end of the class we were all let out early. Tough history lesson for a bunch of kids.

Was an 8th grader in a small two class rooms school. We heard the single phone out in the hall ring and could hear the teacher from the other room answer it, in a few minutes she came and stood in our doorway and announced the President had been shot. Can still see her very clearly in my mind.

At work in the mall. My wife worked in another store. She came down and told us. We closed both stores for several days. Never was a JFK fan but there is no way he could be elected as a dem these days. He'd probably be a rep. He and Bobby were good men and really cared about America. Baby brother teddy, not so much. Made a huge change in the nation.

I recall when he was running for president my dad came home from work and said JFK was at his factory gate campaigning. Dad, the worlds biggest conservative refused his offered handshake and told him he was just a rich playboy! Wonder what he would have told Trump? Dad was Republican of course. I don't believe hardly anyone here could tell half of the scandals of the Kennedy family. People forget. I doubt there has been another family in recorded history with more scandals.
I can also remember where I was when Bobby Kennedy was assassinated.
I was on a motorcycle trip from Wisconsin going home to California. I had stopped for gas at the old Whiskey Pete`s casino at state line. That turned out to be the longest one day MC ride of my life. 1,000 miles exactly from Jackson Wyoming to my house in Tujunga California. I had rode through snow on the pass out of Jackson, lost 3 or 4 hours at the Harley shop in Salt Lake putting on a tire, pealed down to my T shirt when I hit Mesquite Nevada and got home exactly 24 hours and 1,000 miles later. I hit Vegas for awhile, refreshed a bit and being next to broke decided to ride the 4 hours home. Walked into the house in a riding position, left the hawg packed in the back yard and hit the sack dressed. Just remembering. You guys will get old too.

Wife and I both worked the 4-12 shift at Houston Hobby Airport. We were having breakfast/lunch before going to work when we heard the news.
We both saw him the day before when he arrived at Houston Hobby.

Coon Rapids JR high school library PA system. Visited the traveling Kennedy Library exhibit the following summer. Was taken with the whole youngest/greatest president thing. Some where along the line I grew up and figured a few things out. He was still head and shoulders above any one the Dems have given us since. What ever happened to "Ask not what your country can do for you, Ask what you can do for your country"? Still have my 50 miler award.

That day is forever etched in my mind... In fact, the entire weekend. Just unbelievable. It's the only time I can remember that we had the TV on for 3 straight days growing up. A very very heavy weekend...

Driving to a 1:00PM college freshman English class, picked up a friend at a crosswalk and he told me about it.

We went to class, where everybody was pretty much in shock. Instructor just said "We're done for the day."

Now I'm no genius but I ain't no yokel either. I've been as far as Cincinnati, twice. I know enough about guns and shooting as I need to.
A lot of those men on the Warren Commission probably knew less. Even a couple of the Doctors couldn't tell the difference between an entrance wound and an exit wound.

One of the first things I wondered about Oswald was that he did not have much of a budget to operate on. That's why he ended up with a cheap little Italian war relic. It he had already been recruited by those Florida boys who owned all those garbage trucks then, no doubt, he would have had a much better weapon. He was not on anybody's payroll but if he could pull off something big maybe he would be offered a position in the Mafia or the Cuban Communists. It was well known that the Bad Boys had a list of people they didn't like and both Kennedys were on that list. Anybody could cash in on that, you didn't have to already belong.

Now I never heard that the scope on the rifle was loose. Is that fact or fiction? As far as being a difficult shot, after all Oswald was a Marine.
Maybe some of all that training actually rubbed off on him. Have to give him credit, he was calm enough to squeeze off several rounds at a moving target without panicking. Difficult shot? Absolutely not. He practiced with the rifle. He knew what it would do. Any shooter on this Forum could have done the same thing. Shooting down hill with at scoped rifle under 100 yards? Easy Pickens...

LOADS of questions too about RFK's assassination; Missing doorway, Missing ceiling tiles, two or three different types of 22LR ammunition based on the shell casings, slugs recovered and other anomalies.
I met a Forensic Pathologist in the Tucson Airport while both of us were waiting for our flight to LAX; He had a notebook that was over three inches thick that had autopsy photos and other graphic information on Both JFK and RFK assassinations. He was on his way to some type of meeting on the subject of BOTH killings.
That's where I saw the bit about the loose scope loads of questions too why "what's his name" was in the kitchen and armed when RFK came through.
A bit gruesome, but quite interesting and fascinating .
Bottom line is that the Warren Commission LIED, Hid information and IF any of you remember , a couple things about Earl Warren; #1. The DAY of the JFK shooting he appeared on TV BLAMING "Right wing Extremists" and #2. he stated in public that YOU, the American Public, would NEVER KNOW THE TRUTH in YOUR LIFETIMES.

The Florida Mafia told the FBI to make sure he would wait 50 years to tell his story, and he did. Fat Tony Salerno. Tom Traficante. Gerald Ford and George Bush. J. Edgar Hoover and Arlen Specter. And why the Warren Commission would not allow the official KGB investigation report into court or American newspapers Much more thorough than the USA investigation!). And of course, the biggest American P.O.S in history: Lyndon Baines Johnson.

I was at home in Dallas sucking my thumb and pooping my diapers. Hey I was only one year old.

Just an FYI, there is a placard in the concrete at Dallas Love Field where Air Force One was parked and LBJ took the oath of office. The whole area was just replaced with the new terminal but they put the placard back and it is illuminated at night. It is just off of gate 1 if you are ever there but you can't really see it if you don't know where to look.

I and Mesa County Undersheriff Dick Williams were on our way home from Golden, Colorado. In 1963 the new Colorado Police Academy had been authorized in Golden, Colorado but the legislature had not appropriated any money to operate it. For the first couple of years, the Colorado Highway patrol Chief appointed two Patrol officers to administer the Academy and a number of us around the state volunteered to be instructors until permanent instructor could be authorized.

Dick Williams and I, both being Undersheriffs and good friends that had conducted LEO classes in Club 20 meetings for a few years, volunteered to teach some classes in the Academy. We had just completed a week in Golden and stopped in Frisco, Colorado for lunch when the news came on a TV set in the restaurant. I know that I will never forget that lunch.
