I was in my local gunshop this morning and couldn't help but hearing some conversation that sort of cracked me up.

Seems two older gents (probably younger than I) were shopping for a holster and gunbelt. The clerk, about their age, told them the belt maker advised buying a cartridge about six inches larger than normal waist size. Said the first customer: "Since I've grown old, I don't have no butt at all anymore. That big of belt would slide on down."

"Yeah," agreed the clerk, "I mentioned that to my doctor. He says I'm sufferin' from Nobuttatall."

I had to leave the store. The conversation seemed to go downhill from there.

Most western style gunbelt makers do recommend you order a belt about 4" or more larger than the dress belt you wear. Wide belts eat up length fast.

Sorry I don't understand. 38 inch length gets shorter as the belt gets wider?

It don't get shorter but it does get tighter especially with a holster and gun added. I usually add 2" for a gun belt. :D

Yep, some old timers could use a little help when their butt kinda disappears. Ever see Jeff Foxworthy do that "frog walk" thing?

Maybe someone should invent "gunbelt suspenders"...

Gramps, strictly talking western style wide belts now, You don`t wear it in the same location as the belt on your jeans. Try it and you will see. I have been making them for some time and if you want a good fit, follow the makers directions when ordering and it would be good to call them and double check. You will be surprised.

Funny timing on your thread. Over the winter I lost a friend who was in his early fifty's, He was skinny as a rail. He used to say that he got his butt from his Dad. "Noa$$ital" ran in his family. His dad was wounded the day after D-day, and almost bled to death after he was hidden in a hay bail, by his buddies. The Germans over ran the postition, and did not find him. He woke up in a hospital ship and was sent home.

My father in law used to say he had the furniture disease because, his chest had fell down in his drawers.

Gun belts have to cover a broader circumference than your pants and pants belt. If you order a gun belt the same size as your pants, it ain't gonna fit. You typically want to add at least 5" to your pants size. If you wear size 38 pants, you need a 43-44" gun belt, measured to the center hole.

PS, pants belts should be a couple sizes bigger than your pants too. ;)

And...many pants are sized to make you feel good. A guy that fits in 36" pants probably measures out somewhere between 38" to 40".
