New VCRs???

My mom doesn't do much other than cook and work outside in the garden. But when she unwinds, it involves one of two things.

1) She listens to her Bible tapes, and

2) She likes to watch old home movies of the grand kids and/ or old recordings she’s made of the Opry or Gaither Homecomings, etc.

Well lately her VCR has been on the fritz. Their old tv still works and she prefers the picture tube screens to today’s flatscreens.

But they cannot find a VCR that is compatible with their older TV. Heck they can barely find one at all.

Is there a source for VCRs and maybe modern TVs that aren't wide screens?

Thanks. We’ve done that. Problem is most of the time those dont last, if they work at all. Would really like to get a new one.

Good luck. I still have a few because my daughter uses them. TVs I couldn’t throw away. No one would pick them up.

You could get her a DVD player and then have her favorite tapes converted to DVD. Just an idea.

I just tossed one out I'd have shipped to you. The DVD half died.

On top of the used market I would look into finding a conversion cable. From HDMI or whatever your source is to RCA jacks (I assume) Years ago I'd say Radio Shack and maybe they would be a good start I don't know.

Also, don't be afraid to double up if required say an A to B converter plugged into a B to C converter to finally get the right mix. Yes, there may be signal degradation but I doubt enough anyone could tell that wasn't watching super HD

I'll let you in on a little secret.. Before I lost my home, I used to do video conversions for people.. I still have the professional equipment..

I have the ability, to take those VHS tapes, and convert them to high quality DVD that will work on ANY DVD player.. I can then, use my high quality DVD printer to print a picture directly on the DVD.. Not a paper label.. This is EXACTLY like a DVD you buy with a movie on it from the store.. I can even put it in a high quality DVD case, just like the factory does.. Complete with full artwork.. The printer actually prints a color picture on the Glossy DVD.. The DVD is actually white, then it prints whatever you like on that white surface.. There are no paper labels involved in this process.. You cannot tell the difference between my work, and a factory DVD.. They even have menu's and chapters, and in some cases, subtitles for the hearing impaired..

These are professionally done.. Not some amateur junk.. I guarantee my work.. Your mom would be tickled to have these in quality that will never wear out..

This is the same equipment that Hollywood studio's use to do transfers with glass plates for pressing DVD's.

If you like, I will do this for your mother.. You can PM me, and I'll give you my information to send the tapes to me.. Of course, you'll also get back the original tapes..

I would need to know how old are the tapes, and how good is the quality of the picture? Old tapes do degrade over the years.. The picture looks X-rayed if they are to old.. But if they are in good condition, a transfer can be done..

No problem Joe.. Tell your mom, that as a gift, I'll even throw in a brand new DVD player for free.. I have one here that I found in my boxes that I never used.. It's brand new.. I forgot I had it.. It won't play Blu-Ray, but it'll play any standard dvd you can throw at it.. It's in the box.. I know it works because I tested it the other day.. This way, she'll be able to watch the discs without having to buy anything.. It has all the cables and even a remote..

I have no need for it..

I have an old Emerson machine that has a VCR and DVD recorder player built into it. You can put an old VCR tape in and play it and record it to a DVD at the same time if you want. Of course you can also record with the VCR if you want to.

Go to Amazon and type in VCR/DVD combo. There are plenty of them there, some of them pretty cheap.
