I had one of those "Bull Barreled" .44's and it was one heck of a good shooter. I also found one of the early 10-1/2 inchers with the tapered barrel and have found that one more to my liking.....

I did change the front sight blade to one that fits my needs......

I've owned two. One (which I still have) is a stainless bull barrel model. The other was a blued 1 of 500 IHMSA silhouette special with a tapered barrel. Sold it a few years back to fund other guns that I wanted to own. I have to agree with flatgate....I think I liked the old tapered barrel model a little better. But the stainless model is a pretty good shooter too.

Holsters can be a little hard to find for this model. If you need one, here's the one that I use. It's a great holster and very affordable.

I've had one for a number of years. Here's an image of it sporting the factory wood grips (I normally have a Hogue Monogrip on it for actual shooting):

My gun is strictly a range toy and is stupidly accurate out to 50 yards where, benched and using the iron sights, it has no problem keeping sub-2" groups with my handloads.

Full power loads (240 gr. SJHP projectile over 23.8 gr. of W296) are a breeze to shoot with the 10.5" bull barrel, as the mass of the gun does a superb job of absorbing recoil.

I found it depends on your intended use for a 10 1/2" SBH. I had one I bought for mule deer hunting about mid 80's, and hated it for that use, only carried it one season and sold it. It was a PITA to carry in the Rockies, and a slow PITA to draw from the bandoleer rig I had for it. Fun to shoot otherwise though. What down to two 7 1/2" for deer hunting that next season, liked them much better and never felt I gave up anything deer hunting with these except the PITA stuff.

I got one of these back when they first came out many years ago. I just HAD to have one. I traded my beautiful 1971 SBH 7 1/2" .44 mag with a beautiful finish in on it. It did not shoot as well. In fact, it never shot as well as my 7 1/2" SS Virginian Dragoon either which I kept then and dumped the 10 1/2" Ruger.
I think I still have a blue Bianchi holster for it?

As others have said, these long barreled Supers are accurate and a lot of fun to shoot. Had this one almost 25 years. Traded a car radio for it. The gun still works fine. I wonder how the radio is doing.

I had 2 blued tapered barrel ones in the early '80's and a stainless bull barrel one that I kept from the mid '80's until a couple years ago. All were used as metallic silhouette competition guns. I was very satisfied with all 3.

The rib is made by Poly-Choke. It's been on there a long while. I had contact with them about 3-4 years ago and they said they still make them. Here's an advertisement from the 1970's.
