New powder

Ran into some Win. Super handycap AA was wondering if any has tried it in 45.acp. It must be fairly new. Could use some help thanks , Mike

Hi,

Win Super Handicap's been around for a while. Winchester claims it's a rather slow burning powder, which was designed originally for shotshell "handicap" trap loading where a tight pattern's needed at pretty good ranges (35-50 yds generally, sometimes more.) Hodgdon's burn rate chart shows it as being a little faster than I expected, but their recipe section shows nothing for it in any of the pistol cartridges I looked up on their website, including .45 ACP. I'm not close to the books right now to see if I've got anything in print, but I'm not going to hold my breath that there's gonna be much...

thanks for trying I got old books and new but cant find anything to refrece it to a pistol load. But had to try thanks again. Mike

Since the powder shortage, I've loaded some "shotgun only" powders in handgun cartridges. The method I used to find starting loads is somewhat tedious, but works.

You need a shotgun reloading manual such as Lyman's. Next you go through the manual finding loads for the powder in question and search for loads in the same gauge with different powders that give near identical velocities and pressures with identical or near identical components.

I used this method to find starting loads for Alliant's e3, 20/28 and Pro Reach.
