I am looking for a Blackhawk Convertible 357/9mm. I want the old standard grip frame,no lock. The finish on the new pistols looks satin and the grips are black. Did anything else change? Should I just look for an older one or are the new ones just as good? Thanks

the used ones are as common as squirrel turds so if you want one i would get one. shooting is all in the grip as far as where the gun points and finger hits the trigger. recoil will be soaked up a little better with the big grips to.

So all Blackhawks old or new have the same size grip frame ?

Nope. '55-'62 have the XR-3, a copy of Colt's SAA grip.
'62-Current have the XR3-RED, EXCEPT for the 50th Anniversary .357 and .44 which have a steel, in lieu of cast aluminum, version of the '55-'62 design, but, with the "LOCK".

Now, toss the .41 Mag and .44 Special Flattops in the pot. Both, I believe, have the '05 introduced XR-3, but, I'm not positive. Never seen one here in the desolation of Wyoming.. :D

www.gunblast.com has a good article posted on Ruger Grips and Grip Frames.
