Neighbor accidently washed his P95

My neighbor came to my shop with a sheepish look on his face. His wife being out of town, he decised to do the laundry. He pulled all the bedding and ran it through the wash. His Loaded Ruger P95 was under the pillow and ended up in that load of wash.
I broke it down and inspected it for damage. Except for slight damage to the bluing on the front sight it looked just like new. I relubed and assembled it and gave it back to him. I have heard of people washing them in the dishwasher but not in the cloths washer.

Yes, it was absolutly spotless inside except for the bore. A patch or two later and the bore was also spotless. Basically all it did was remove all oils and lubrication. All metal parts are stainless so it looked like brand new inside and out. I doubt that the ammo in it faired as well though. The ammo was disposed of.

The bedding might need another wash as lead is a potential hazard.

Oh no ,not me ! My wife is very particular about that. I would not dare.
Jim is a retired mechanic and rebuilds fishing reels in his shop. He started that as a hobby but word got out and he gets them shipped to him from all over. FedEx and UPS always in his driveway. He should be able to clean a gun, but he just brings it to me. I am glad to help out a neighbor.

A loaded P95 is not a light gun. I don't understand how someone wouldn't notice that going into the washer, but stranger things have happened.

I have washed a bunch of stuff purposely in a clothes washer that most wouldn't expect.....and yes, guns are some of those items. The agitator makes it a LOT better at getting things with internal parts cleaner than a dishwasher will. You have to put the gun IN something obviously so it doesn't get beat up. I have an old clothes washer in my shop that sees all kinds of parts.........that's what it's for. I have a sonic cleaner now, so no need to put guns in it, but it still gets used a lot
