Looks like they are making the 8-shot 357mag Redhawks with 4.2" and 5.5" barrels in addition to the shortie.

I have the 2 3/4" barrel version and absolutely love it, I have put a couple boxes through it in the last couple weeks.

The longer barreled versions go back to the standard grip frame though, rather than the rounded one.

Yep, there were folks who said "if only they would make it in a 4 or 5 inch barrel." Now they've done it! Next thing will be "if only they made a blued version." Ha!

Can anyone tell me the overall length of the cylinder on these new 357's? Was going to grab another gp100 but if the Redhawk can be reamed to 360 dw I'm in for the 5 1/2" model

Thank you!! These new Rugers are sweet. Never owned a Redhawk. Really wish it was a gp or super Redhawk but I can understand why they went with the Redhawk. So now the question is how much can these new cylinders be stretched and hot rodded safely? I'm thinking 360 dw will be fine correct me if I'm wrong.

from the net. http://bullet-blog.com/360-dw-2/

quote> The .360 DW also has a case length of 1.415 in" (35.94mm) and an overall length of 1.76 in" (44.7mm). <end quote

I also like the 180gr XTP bullets loaded to the second groove at 1.70".

I know that one is relieved for moon clips. Will it fire & function without them?

Ruger's specs on the 2 new long barrel models don't indicate their cylinders are relieved for moon clips. I wonder if that's fact or oversight.. (that info/specification on their website) (?)

scroll down.

Reviewer says yes to moon clips and I would think they would cut the cylinder to unload cases with the star as well.

The 2 and 3/4" model works fine without moonclips. I actually forgot about them first time i took it out. Had to pull it out again and run a couple cylinders with the clips just to verify function before i left.

I have never owned a revolver that used moon clips before, but I can see how they are somewhat handy. They wobble around a little so reloading takes a little finesse but all in all, it was faster with the clips than without i think.
