Model 77/357 Red Dot Sight??

Is there a heavily recommended RDS for the Model 77/357 and a supporting mounting system? Plan on using it for Deer at 150 yards max. Are the factory rings useful for this? Also, was planning on reloading Hornady 158 grain Flat Point XTPs. Any comments?

The 1" Ruger rings aren't terribly useful for RDS, as most are either short 30mm tubes or the RMR types.

You can get a picatinny style base for the rifle, which clamps to the factory ring recessses.

There are weaver/picatinny adaptors for the Ruger base. One that attaches to both recesses will be more stable than a single.

The most elegant solution is the Burris mount for their FastFire series (now at FF4). The one you want is #410332 on this page:

Thank you 357Gig for the information on mounting an RDS on my new Ruger 77/357. Just got done installing the Burris Fastfire base on the rifle and mounting a Vortex Venom on that. Looking forward to seeing if it will zero with my Hornady 158gr XTPs.

That Burris Fastfire base coupled with the Vortex Venom, makes a very compact and low mounted optic. Sighting in at 50 yards was simple and I will be refining my 158 grain Flat Point XTP loading. Thanks to all for input and options.
