I had 2 mini-14s that were stamped .223. But look up the difference between factory .223 Remington and NATO 5.56x 45mm then decide what you're shooting in a mini-14.

From the Ruger manual:
"The RUGER ® MINI-14 ® RIFLES are chambered for the .223 Remington
(5.56mm) cartridge. The Mini-14 Rifle is designed to use either standardized U.S.
military, or factory loaded sporting .223 (5.56mm) cartridges manufactured in
accordance with U.S. industry practice...."

The only exception to that is the special "Target Model" which uses a different chamber. That particular model is for .223 Remington Cal ammo ONLY.....In other words, read the manual for your particular rifle. If you don't have one, contact Ruger and they'll send you one for free....Or call customer service. They'll tell you the same thing regarding which ammo you can use.

Hope this helps.
