Mini-14 scope recommendations

What forum member experience has proved to be the best all around scope for the
Mini-14/Ranch Rifle ????????????? I am looking for idea's for a Christmas gift for my SIL. Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How much do you want to spend? Minis are hard on scopes. I like a 2-7x, or even 1-4x Leupold or Nikon. A big scope, to me defeats the purpose of a light, fast handling rifle like a Mini. The only budget scope I have seen that will consistently hold up on a Mini-14 is the Nikko Stirling, I think that is because they are airgun rated, and the recoil impulse on a Mini is similar to an airgun.

Different scopes for different needs.

Do they hunt? Do they punch paper at long distance? Do they prefer to engage multiple, variable targets with a high rate of speed?

I've had scopes on Minis before. I'll go without one on my next mini. It's not a benchrest rifle, so I didn't see much point to much magnification. A 1-3x, or 2-7 tops would be my pick if I opt for a scope in the future.

I agree that Minis are hard on scopes. I had one come apart after less than 200 rounds. I think that the problem is the forward inertia of the bolt, causing stress to be applied in a direction opposite typical recoil. That's just a hunch though.

Yes, the bolt slamming forward is the problem. Even 10-22 has a reputation in my circles.

I put a 3-9 Redfield Revolution on mine. Reason, the dealer had a demo for $100 and the Leupold warranty should cover any problems. It is a true ranch truck gun and not subject to high volumes of target practice. Besides, I have had good luck with Leupold (AO equipped) scopes on springer air guns. jack

I went with one of the Leupolds.



I like it a lot. I've only had it for a few years so the durability is still a question. It's shiny because I coated it. It has a mate finish from the factory.
