Finally got my new Mini 14(Model 5847, pictured below) to the range today. Only had time to shoot two mags of American Eagle XM193 5.56 but boy am I happy! I used a 14" target because this is my first rifle and I had no idea what to expect. Shots were taken at 50 yards while standing, I would take a shot, get back on target and shoot again, not rapid fire but fairly quick. I'm gonna use a bench rest the next time because I might have to adjust the sight a little. Gun ran flawlessly and performed exactly how I hoped it would...oh, yea...wow, this barrel gets hot quick, lol. Also, the wife took several shots with it and asked if there was a lighter, easier to use version of this gun so we can shoot rifle together, looks like I'm going to have to buy a 10/22

How do you guys store yours, cocked, or do you dry fire before putting it away?

Mine is stored cocked with the bolt resting against an NRA chamber flag.

Just my opinion, but I don't store any gun cocked. I know people say that a modern spring will not weaken if it is compressed all the time, but I still would rather not do it. I store some guns loaded, but hammer down, and any magazine downloaded by 1 round also.
