I am wondering if there is a place or someone who knows of other markings/stampings on the receiver of GBs other than the military/law enforcement one? Mine is stamped SCFO988 above the serial number on the receiver? Any ideas what this stands for? Thanks in advance!!

Likely an inventory stamp added by whichever agency (SCFO?) bought the rifle from Ruger...

Ruger might be able to tell you which agency that was.

I called Ruger today and they verified that it left as a GB in 1989 for law enforcement. Unfortunately they didn't know anything about the SCFO988..

They wouldn't tell you even if they did know. They give out as little info as they can. Not like the old days when they would give out any info they had.

SCFO = State Compliance for Financial Offices.

It's a division of insurance fraud investigation and enforcement. These were patrol vehicle weapons for their agents.

998 was their office / precinct number.

Sheesh! Can anyone imagine why insurance investigators would need semi-auto rifles?!?!?
Handguns, maybe, but taxpayer-purchased extended-range autoloader rifles?

'Cause Medicare cheaters are like wild boars--you never know when Granny's gonna turn on ya!

Actually, many of the worst insurance fraudsters are members of gangs and other organized crime. Anybody that's been around the block a couple of times knows that it is always easier to rob the taxpayer than anybody else, and gangsters have known this forever. Wonder how many Harleys have been paid for with Medical fraud?
