Mini-14 and Tapco Mags

Good Afternoon,

I recently purchased 2 new composite Tapco 30rnd mags for my mini-14. They are great looking magazines and compliment my synthetic and stainless mini. I am having a problem with them cycling rounds though. My factory steel 5 and 20 rnd mags work flawlessly. These new tapco's wont cycle at all though even when working the bolt by hand manually. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what did you do to solve it? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Tapco mags are junk. The ones for the SKS are junk, the ones for the Mini are junk. When it comes to the Mini 14, stick with Ruger factory mags. (And if you have an SKS, leave it the way it was intended to be!)

Yup. Sadly it seems pretty much everything TAPCO makes is poor quality. I have a cleaning kit and a few older AR mags that followed me home from the Marines that work fine but everything else I got from them was garbage.

I bought a Mini-14 stock and several Mags and I gave the stock away and after several exchanges I ended up using the mags as targets.

I haven't tried the Gen II mags so I can't say for sure that they are junk but my experiences with TAPCO products have not been good. Factory mags cost more but I gladly pay extra for working parts.

Either stick with Ruger magazines or use PMI or Masen. I run quite a few PMIs through my AC556. Everything else is junk.

I have some Triple K mags that work well, but did take a little breaking in. I have a bunch of factory 20s that work flawlessly.

I have also had good luck with the TripleK magazines. I have three 20rd mags and a 30rd mag that all work well. I would go out on a limb to say that they are as good as the Ruger factory mags, for less than half of the price.

If you order them from CDNN you can get them for 14.99$ each plus shipping. I got the rectangular 20rd mags (the ones that look like M14 mags). Both the 20 and 30rd mags have the green follower.

They are flawless so far.

I also bought a 20rd polymer mag at the same time. It might have been a Tapco, I dont remember but I can tell you it was garbage. When I checked a minute ago CDNN didnt have them listed anymore. Probably because they were tired of getting returns.

Stick with steel.
