Midway just sent me an email stating that they have Winchester 36 gr. HP ammo in 555 ct. boxes for 31.99. Tempting but still a little high. 8)

Yea, close but no cigar. I just bought 3 boxes of 333 for $21.99 each at Dick's, once you add the shipping from Midway(about $12) it's a bit pricey.
Yeah to pricy wasn't long ago the Winchester box of 555 was $11.99 at Walmart and it wasn't the cheap stuff it is now it was the Xtrem ammo which is good stuff, I traded off my 22 pistol just so I don't have to deal with dishonest ammo prices any longer.

I still have some 550 boxes with a 8.75 price tag on them. Every time Linda went to
Wally world I asked her to grab a box for me. Got a large stock pile before things went to hell.
Grandchildren are beginning to put a hurt on them tho, oh well that's what there for. ps

Midway has XTP bullets on sale now. I got me some 38/357 caliber XTP's - 158 grain and some 180 grain.
The 180 grain XTP's have been unavailable for about a year at least.

The days of 2 & 3 cent 22's are long gone.
IMO $31.99 is a good price for a box of 550. That's under 6 cents a piece.
I would buy them if they were local, but yes shipping would hurt the price.
I just bought a 500rnd carton of thunderbolts today for $36 out the door. Which is way over priced. But most of the time this place limits you to 200rnds. Unless they have value packs. When I got home I had the same box of thunderbolts & they were $5 cheaper, from probably 7 or 8 months ago. I've also been buying cci mini mag 300rnd boxes for $30 plus tax from the same place.
my way of thinking is that the price isn't going to do a 180 & come down. Plus from what I'm still seeing in a lot of the country 22's are still scarce.
And I don't want to pay a quarter for one 22 in 10 or 12 years when I retire, which is the way it's headed.

I think I'd be in on the 555/$32 if I didn't have to pay tax and shipping. Flea market is opening next month and I'm pretty sure I could clear a table full of those @ $45-50 per box before noon.

Actually no. It would be going back into circulation(with me making a small "re-homing" fee). If it was going into a burial vault, THEN it would be contributing to the "shortage".

I have a question.
Who still can't find 22 ammo locally? And where are you located?
Asking because by me here in NE Ohio its everywhere. Except at Walmart.
And I've had a local honey hole by me that has never been without 22's.
Now they put a buy limit of 200ct or 1 value pack per day on it. But have never run out. And the same with powder and primers. They must have a good connection because they had them when the bigger shops couldn't get any.
Now the price keeps creeping higher and higher but that's everywhere.
I buy it every time I can because the price isn't going to go down.
As a matter a fact I think it's going to make a big increase in the next couple years. I see a country wide tax being put on anything firearm related. It's already happening in parts of the country.

I agree about availability, I can't believe how many guys I see at gun shows paying $40 for .22's that Dick's has in stock for $20. My local Walmart almost always has Winchester Super X priced at $7.95 for 100 with a three pack limit.
As long as people buy this stuff, the price will continue to rise. There is only one way to control prices and that's simply to bite the bullet (sorry for that) and stop buying (and if necessary stop shooting) .22's. I ration myself on shooting my 'stash'.... should be good for quite a few years (and then will have to mortgage the ranch to buy a box of 50).................

22 is hit or miss in this area . local Walmart had wwb 222 round packs for around 10$ last weekend when I was in I picked 1 up . a couple weeks ago the wife and I took a few days off to go up to senica casino in Salamanca new York I stopped at a place called sportsmans depo in Bradford pa they had cci mini mags for about 7$ per 100 I grabbed 2 of those and was talking to a local he said any 22 ammo at all was a rare find up there . I think 22 ammo is slowly making a comeback I pick up a box or 2 here and there but I refuse to pay gouger prices .

My S&W 622 only sees CCI Stingers. I find them easiest to grab online during the summer and fall months. Stores with good pricing are usually out/low-of-stock until then. Been that way for a while now, so I don't even search until summer for best prices.

And I just want to say this again, 22's are not going to go down in price!!!
By not buying them when you can only means your going to pay more later.

Everything has gone up in price lead, powder, primers, shipping, etc etc

The wife and I went to WM today for dog food and groceries, I walked thru Sporting goods, and there were 6 boxes of Remington GOLDEN in 100 round plastic boxes. Cost $6.97 each, I took 3 and another customer took the last 3, at $22.84 OTD. I got them for our Grandson's bday on the 28th of March. He is 15 going to be 16 and does not enjoy paper punching like I do. He's a can and turtle shooter. Last WM ammo purchase was Federal Auto Match 3 box limit, last fall, for $62.xx OTD Overloadded
