What harm does the loaded chamber indicator do? I saw many posts about removing it or filing it down.

The one MKIII that I owned was basically a Jam O Matic from that miserable
thing, someone does make and market a replacement plug in that doesn't move
at all and that ostensibly remedies that problem leaving only the other lawyer
inspired abomination, the magazine disconnector. I abandoned the entire
MKIII series as a bad idea and a solution to a problem no one asked for and
stuck with my MKIIs that are as solid as the Rock of Gibraltar in my experience.
You could ask around for a link to whoever makes the replacement piece, it might
be Tandemkross or Majestic Arms, both can be found by Googling, good luck.

Here is a link to the Tandemkross part in stainless, they also make a blued version
for the same cost depending on which you need.

On their website there is also a short very handy video on installing the replacement

In many cases the LCI can cause stove-pipe spent cases that get caught between the bolt face and breech face. It's a real pain to clean around in the chamber. The original designer of the "loaded chamber indicator filler" is a fella ( Bruce Patza ) who frequents another rimfire web-site. He's the guy who innovated this filler piece and actually MAKES these parts. The two "copy cat dudes" on the east coast try to make copies of what Bruce produces, but when you compare the copies they fall way short of the original as far as fit and finish.
This Ruger Mark III pistol uses a Bruce Patza LCI filler that blends very well and his fillers cost around $15.00 shipped, in six different finishes. You can "GOOGLE" Bruce Patza to get his information. If that gives you a problem, email me at [email protected].

This Bruce Patza LCI filler matches the factory finish on the Ruger Mark III 22/45 very well and fits perfectly also. You won't get that same look and fit from those east coast copy-cats, who charge a much higher price.

The LCI is supposed to solve the problem of operator malfunction (or CYA for the company). I haven't removed them from my pistols but likely will at some point. Anything that adds drag or obstructs feeding/chambering on a 22 will cause problems sooner or later.

Both of my MK IIIs, 6 7/8 Target and 22/45, have been 'modified' and are now closer to MK IIs. If nothing else I can strip them without having to make sure I am holding my mouth is a certain position.
