lcp malfunctions

Had my new never fired lcp to the range and experenced several failure to go into battery after the first shot fired. anyone with the same problems? also seems to be shooting extreamly high at 20ft.?

Welcome to the forum. Time to break it apart and lube it. That should take care of the failure to go into battery. I had a Keltec do it in the first 50 rounds and a S & W 4506 do it with the first mag. Lubing took care of those problems. I have modified the sights on my LCP with glow in the dark paint. Yellow on the front sight and the back area is orange. Make sure the front sight is flat with the top of the back sight and in the groove when sighting and firing. Good luck.

I had the same problem with an LC380. After I got it home and cleaned and lubed I never had another failure.

Change the recoil spring to a 13 lb. I also change the trigger. No jams in over 100 rounds

I found that the new LCP we got is a late one with fired case date of 3-2013 purple frame Talo Version has the upgraded raised sights , much better than the low old type. Also has a shorter trigger pull that breaks way away from the rear of the pull. Other factory upgrade is it does now come with a steel guide rod.. Ok didn't fire it yet still looking for some .380 FMJ target loads.. Only could get two boxes of Critical defense ammo from Hornady 90 gr FTX JHP.I found with 6 rounds in the mag i found that the slide would stop dead in it's tracks as soon as the nose of the bullet hit the feed ramp.. That's with slingshotting the slide or locking the slide back and releasing it that way.. I hated to polish the feed ramp before break in but had too.. Seems to now feed the first round reluctantly next round feeds a little better and the rest feed fine.. Again this is by hand and not firing the gun.. George

ALL guns that enter my domain,first stop is the cleaning bench. Nearly all guns that are test fired at the factory, DO NOT get cleaned before shipment.

My routine-
Brand new guns get taken apart down to the normal field strip point, wiped clean, lubed, and re-assembled.
Used guns, even from my closest friend, get stripped down to factory recommendations, degreased, and wiped clean in every nook and cranny. Then re-assembled with correct lubricate in all points of friction.
Now I will, and do, shoot them!

My new rugers have been coming in extremely dirty lately, compared to a couple years ago. Cleaning new guns is part of the fun of buying them. Just picked up a sr45 and it was full of grease and crud.

I have the Galloway springs, guide rod, and trigger in my LCP............and the Hogue grip. Made it a completely different gun to shoot. Much better in the hand, and a much better shooting gun. Great payback for the $100 investment.

Anyone know how the Galloway trigger on the LCP compares to the New updated LCP's out now in 2013? Short trigger, raised sights and steel guide rod on the Late LCP's.. Wondering if doing the Galloway trigger would still improve what I consider a perfect trigger.. Almost anyway! George

That's the first thing I do with every new pistol or rifle. There shipped with all kinds of goo, and the rails need some lube.
