LC9 Questions

Hey guys first post even though I have been lurking for a while. Anyway I just bought a LC9. This is my second semi auto, my other is a G19 and the other 3 are revolvers so I'm not really well versed with the semi's so, I will be asking a lot of questions.

1. Upon expecting the LC9, the ejector on the right side of the slide doesn't look as flush to the slide as my G19. Is that normal?

2. While wraping my hand around the grip and if you squeez it, it sounds like it's cracking, is that because it's new, also if the gun is dropped is that material the grip is made out of strong enough not to crack?

3. This is the big one, after emptying a clip the slide stays back as advertised, however it's a bear to release the slide with the release button after inserting a new clip, don't laugh but I need to use both thumbs to release it.

4. Last question for now is, if the slide is locked back without a clip I can't pull the slide back to release it as you would if the clip is full. I need to push the slide back and push down on the slide release button.I don't think my G19 is like that but is that normal?

I'm not an expert but I'll try giving you some answers until someone smarter shows up (which shouldn't be too long :lol: ) Welcome to the forum.

1. It's kinda hard to say without pictures. I no longer have a G19, so I can't compare it to my LC9...but the extractor on my LC9 is flush with the frame.

2. The polymer frame should certainly be stout enough not to break...and I don't hear any "cracking" when I grip my LC9. Just how strong are you? :shock:

3. The slide release is stiff on mine as well...using the sling shot method is much easier, and many recommend it over using the slide stop to release the slide.

4. Mine isn't hard to release without a magazine in the well, but perhaps yours is just stiff from being new. Maybe others can better address this one.

BTW, you may get some comments about referring to the magazine as a clip. Technically, it isn't a clip, although you do see it referred to as such.

Hopefully, others can give you better help that I have.

Hi Mikee57 - welcome to the forum.

1. As I don't have a G 19 I can't compare the extractor on my LC9 to the Glock. On my LC9 the extractor is flush with the frame.
2. I don't hear any crackling from the grip.
3. The slide hold open is just that, a hold open lug. It is not intended as a slide release button as on a 1911. To quote Ruger 'The hold open is spring loaded downward so it is released by pulling the slide slightly rearward.'
4. I can remove the magazine, lock the slide open, and then release the slide to battery by pulling rearward on the slide, and then releasing it.

I might suggest a thorough cleaning/lubricating and then run at least 200 round through it. Then clean & lube again, and see if that changes your concerns.

Others have answered the other questions well.

But my LC9's extractor is not flush, and the Ruger rep I spoke with on the phone said that it is not supposed to be.

I'd be intersted to hear more from other LC9 owners whether their extractors are flush or not.

Hmm...I'll be interested to know this as well.

Does it make any difference if there is a round in the chamber?

Thanks for the replies. I'm also very interested about the extractor being flush so, I'm going to follow this thread since it appears some are flush and some are not.

Nope. My extractor isn't flush whether there is a round in the chamber or not.

It is firmly in place because when I first noticed it after shooting it I thought dang, is thing working its way out of place. I didn't really notice it before I went shooting it for the first time.

Here's another, "not flush." Looks a touch odd but works as it should. The slide release will eventually start working. In the meantime, be thankful the recoil spring is light enough to allow easy racking between "magazines"....

News Flash....My Extractor is NOT Flush either, FWIW.

Here's another NOT FLUSH. as far as the "Slide Release" is concerned. It is not a release, it's just a stop for use when you want the slide locked open without an empty mag inserted. Ruger even sent a great little booklet with a catchy name accross the front that reads "Owners manual". I even read it and mine explains all this. Go Figure!
