I realize this doesn't apply to most here but I thought I had to post. The owner of one of my favorite burger joints (through history) has passed away. Jack Keller opened this joint long before I was born in 1962.

I mentioned this place in the very long best burger thread a few weeks ago. What was really cool was they kept the drive-in muscle car show going to this day. Man, if you wanted to see a cool rat rod or custom street rod this was the place to go. If you just wanted to participate in an all Mustang show, this was the place to go. Hell, if you wanted to see every Ford pick-up built since Henry Ford rolled the first one off of the line. This was the place to go.

I am talking more of the one on Northwest Highway but the others had some stuff. I sure hope it doesn't change but I am betting it will go away soon. Jack refused to sale prime property along Northwest Hwy. to keep this drive in open. It will be gone now I am sure. Another location on Harry Hines Blvd. was a great one as well.

I would bet there are few of y'all who have visited these classic shows and eaten these awesome burgers.

In the mid 60" I worked at Shakey's pizza across the street from Kellers. It was a hoot to hear the hot rods come from all around to show off. This was near Steakley Chevrolet auto dealership at the northwest corner of Northwest Highway and Abrams always on my list of places to see the new cars and visit the Pig Stand on the other corner.
Nobody knew what as Muslim was but everybody knew what a camel was, it was a cigarette.

Yep, it has always been the place to show off and have some good food. I took my 71 Ranchero GT down there and got some pretty good comments. Not all good by the way, it was the old pale green. I surely liked it. Wish I still had it.

Oh, and Shakey's, awesome as well. How the hell have we gotten so old? I lived off of Barnes Bridge for years and then moved back there after the Corps.. Glad to waken some old memories. In the mid 60s I was 3 or 4 but that's ok.. Do you remember the "Monterey House"? It was very close to there in the early 70's. One of the original Tex/Mex places in Dallas, not including El Fenix. Had the best tamales ever.

Well, back to the original post. I sure hope they keep Keller's open. I think we will take a trip just in case they don't. Judy, my sweetie has never been there.

I've only eaten at Keller's once. The one over on Garland Ave north of the Arboretum there. But I've driven by the one on Northwest Highway. It is indeed prime real estate, and each time I've seen a bunch of motorcycles or other hot rods like you said. Lot time drive in's like that are few and far between these days.

I was driving a 62 Ford Falcon recycled oil and retreads so did not get many comments. But did turn heads, not in a good way.
I knew of the Monterey house never remember eating there. Southern kitchen, Zuider zee, Youngbloods
El Fenix if I had money to eat out. Man what a hoot it would be to go to the Egyptian lounge again.
