The recent fish thread got me thinking of a great scene in the movie "Julie & Julia". It's a true story about a gal in Boston I think, or maybe New York who challenged herself to cook all 521 recipes in one of Julia Childs' cookbooks in 365 days. Good movie, Streep is great as Julia of course.

It's the opening scene or one of them. Julia Childs is eating with hubby (played by Stanley Tucci) in a nice French restaurant and the waiter, in black and white is doing table-side service. He opens the lid on one of those silver serving carts revealing a whole fish steaming in what has to be perfect broth and seasoning. The waiter deftly prepares the fish using a spatula and maybe a large serving fork. One-two-three he peels the entire rib bone from the fish, handling the utensils with pinky fingers extended, serving half to each of them.

I explain all this for a couple of reasons. One, the scene, like the fish thread here made me hungry and two, I have to one day dine in a restaurant like that. It'd be neat to experience service of that caliber at least one time.

So, just like most of my posts, this really has nothing to do with anything. But hey, what's a lounge for?

I always wondered about my grandpa. His first wife died and was named Julia. Then he married my grandma, a young widow herself and also was named Julia. Both Julia`s are buried on each side of him. I wonder how that is working out in heaven?
Any input on that Bob Wright? Hows that for thread drift?

Man YOU need to upgrade. Our top notch restaurant has Fly Paper hanging from the lights. At first they were on the ceiling fan but that didn't work out to good. It kept throwing DEAD flies into the soup. :D :D :D

As to heaven, we are "As the angels in heaven, who neither marry nor are given in marriage."

Once we receive our spiritual bodies, we will still recognize one another, but not be as husband and wife.

(I am to teach my Sunday School class this coming Sunday, and my lesson will be on our spiritual bodies.)

Thanks Bob, actually heard it before. Actually grandpa`s first wife was the widow of a older brother of his just as in the same story the disciples braced Jesus with. All concerned were German settlers from Volhynia Russia, now the NW corner of the Ukraine.

Jim, You made me laugh with the bit about flies in the soup.

I am highly skeptical about any descriptions of heaven. Time will tell, so I don't worry about it.

I take what Jesus said about Heaven to be true. He was there from the beginning, and is there now. At least one person, Stephen, saw Him there.

Spirits need a body? I'm not quite following that.

Souls need a body. The Bible records that God "created Adam from the dust of the ground, and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils. And Adam became a living soul." Maybe not quite a verbatim quote, but close.

When a person dies, that soul is immediately in Heaven or Hell.

And at the Rapture, those who have died as Christians, and those who remain alive, are transformed "in the twinkling of an eye." This in a new body, what is generally referred to as the "glorified body." This is the first resurrection.

A long time ago in a far away land. OK it was Québec City we were in a nice restaurant and I ordered French Onion Soup. GEEEEEEEEEEES what else would you order in a French Restaurant??? There was just one small problem. A fly was doing the back stroke in my SOUP. I have always wanted call the waitress to the fact "Hey there's a Fly in my soup".
She really didn't care. :D

So, is it a flesh and blood body? I'm not trying to put you on a spot here Bob. It's a serious question. If it's a flesh and blood body, what makes it better? Does this have anything to do with reincarnation?

Cary,

First of all, I don't mind serious questions concerning things of God.

Flesh and blood? I don't know that. Not really reincarnation, as such, as that does imply flesh and blood, and incarnate means, sort of, "in the flesh."

When He was resurrected, Jesus was in a resurrected body. Reading Scriptures after His resurrection, He appeared and vanished at will. Also He appeared in rooms otherwise shut off with closed doors. And Scripture records "We shall be like Him."

Exactly what form we will be in is not made clear to us. But again, that we will reign with Him for a thousand years on Earth.

And, as Scripture says, all old things are passed away.

And this body will be perfect: no more blindness, crippling, disease or injuries. One thing remains: The scars Jesus bears will remain for a memorial throughout eternity.

Very good answer Bob. That upgraded body sounds pretty good.

This sort of puts the lie to Catholic Purgatory and/or the Bible's Judgement Day, unless you believe that there are as many judgement days as there are people who ever lived. The assembly of all for judgement is one of the main reasons for the belief that cremation is against God's will because we cannot 'hide' from God (by scattering ashes) when judgement day arrives.

Don't want to argue theology with you, but what you are saying goes against everything I was taught in a Reformed church.

I have heard pre trib and post trib argued by preachers in the same denomination. Also other sequences of great white throne judgement etc. I have never read the word "Purgatory " in any of my bibles. The Mormons believe in getting baptized for dead relatives as way of salvation and I don't believe in that either. There are some big powered evangelists even of my own faith that preach prosperity etc. Usually want to send them money. I don't believe in prosperity preaching either. Shocker! My denomination believes in tithing. While its nice, I am not convinced that's a must either! Tithing was in the old testament. It isn't mentioned in the new testament. In the days the bible was wrote I doubt there was any type of government welfare. Today we are taxed and much of my tax's go to various forms of welfare.
I don't want one second of hellfire whether its immediately after death or after the Great White Throne judgement even if it`s after the 1,000 year reign. So if we even have those things out of order it certainly isn't going to change my decision to be a Christian. Eternity is a looooong time!
Obviously there are all sorts of things I don't claim to understand such as how some people are born with great genes into a rich family, others born crippled and in poverty in war torn country's, where they aren't even given the word to choose. Anyone that thinks they have all the answers I think is a preemptive fool. I don't swallow everything some know it all trys to tell me even if we are in the same denomination. I do believe in Jesus and accept that he is the only way to salvation. I also TRUST God, Jesus and the holy spirit will work things out far above my understanding with the ones born cripples, mentally challenged etc. that was born with the short straw. Above all, I do know I don't want to take any chances by purposelessly sinning.

In His example of Lazurus and the rich man, Jesus said they immediately went to "Abraham's bosom" and in hell. Remember at that time, hell was "the realm of the dead" and consisted of torment and Paradise, or Abraham's bosom. After Jesus' death and burial, Jesus took all Old Testament saints and pre-crucifixion Christians to Heaven. These will be resurrected at the Rapture. After the Thousand years are completed, tribulation saints and all sinners will be resurrected to face the Great White Throne of Judgement. Hell will give up the dead who will be cast into the Lake of Fire. Jesus made it plain that there are two resurrections.

Attention moderators,

You want a poster child for thread drift, this thread is the one.

I'll say this and boy my limited popularity here will take another nose dive. If I'm in a "lounge" type atmosphere and folks do nothing but talk religion, politics and anti-everything that is non-heterosexual.......it ceases to be a lounge anymore. Guess what everyone? I don't care if you love or hate the president. Love or hate gays to the point you need special security at your church. When I'm in a lounge enjoying my alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink and you start this kind of talk, count me walking away from you.

Folks, in this post all I did was relate the fact that I would like to be serviced in a high-class restaurant once in my life. That's all and if you have no comments on the subject (like most of my posts) just move on. What in Sam Hill are all of you talking about here?

I use to moonlight as a bouncer and I know people, I observe and take it all in. Prevention was the key. Anytime I saw/heard folks start talking politics, religion etc. I knew to keep a close eye on the situation and most times one of those two conversationalists was escorted out the door. No questions asked, move on. You know why?

I gave half-a-care about either of the two conversationalists who made it a point for all those around them to be able to hear whatever political or religious beliefs they were spouting. I cared about me, the other employees and especially the patrons in the bar, there just to have a good time and to be able to jump on the dance floor when a good double-two song is played. Not to have to get sprayed by flying drinks and bottles when two morons start fighting.

Well, this was fun.

Pierow

In the end of it all, religion and politics ARE (at least to me) the two most important subjects there is in the world to discuss. First, once we die our soul is going to be either in paradise forever or tormented in hell forever. Politics is going to affect our lives for the good or bad while we live here. What possibly can be more important than those two subjects? How long would I wait to get served in a restaurant? Hot dog eating contests?

I think Bob Wright has read the same bible that I've read several times.

As to movies and whatever, well, it IS the lounge.....

I went back and reread your first post. Above is your last sentence. Then you gripe and complain to the moderators about thread drift. What exactly did you want to happen concerning your post? You asked no question for anyone to answer. To me, your post was just kind of rambling. I don't see what you have to complain about. You admit that your post had nothing to do with anything. So I guess maybe you didn't want anyone to respond to it.

Maybe you're enjoying a little too much of your alcoholic beverage.

If I don't like a thread or post how hard is it to just skip it and move on? Nothing is required reading. Or are we going to be tested?
