He has written a number of war novels based on actual events. I read "The Frozen Hours" recently and enjoyed it a lot. It centers around the push into North Korea (Chosin Reservoir area) in the fall of 1950 and concludes with the pullback to Hungnam. It's written primarily from a Marine perspective. Privates Riley and Killian along with sergeant Ward face waves of Chinese troops night after night. The Chinese would withdraw at dawn before the Corsairs showed up.
