Jacketed Soft Points for .41 Magnum ?

Happy Holidays.

Would like to load some 200 + grain JSPs for my .41 BH.

Is anyone aware of a manufacturer and/or source for these bullets? I am aware that Remington manufactures a JSP in .41 caliber but I am just trying to find some bullets -- not factory loaded ammunition.

I have read both favorable and unfavorable reviews on the plated bullets. I guess the primary concern is to keep velocity close to 1200 FPS.

They are plated, but you should really try a box, good price, consistent, heavier plating than most and they don't separate. I put them over a stiff load of H110 and have never had any problems.

You might want to take a look at cast bullets if you need that wide face. The other thing, I have some Nosler sporting handgun jacketed HP's in 41--but they look different from most other HPs for handguns that I have--more like a flat point with the center hollowed out a bit--less of a cavity than other typical handgun HP's.

I use the Berry's plated for practice shooting. I shoot mostly lead in the SBH though. I do have a couple of boxes of factory ammo from Federal that are 210 gr jacketed soft points. I assume they still make them. However, I have not seen any for sale as components.

I've had great accuracy over the last 30 years with Sierra 210's, Remington 210 gr SP's and JHP's, and most currently Hornady 210 gr XTP's. All are deer killers and superbly accurate in the guns I've tried: three BH's and a Smith M57. Groups between 1 and 2" at 25 yds are no problem even with my 68 yo eyes doing the steering over open sights.

It's a great caliber, and really one of the easiest to get a great load in. I'd not be skittish about launching any of the above at eastern white tails, but if really pressed, I'd pick the current Hornady XTP 210 for that use or for personal defense.

If bear are a problem, I'd opt for a heavy cast lead alloy SWC in the 220 gr or bigger size. Lyman's 410459 is a good one as is the plain base 220 gr SWC from Missouri Bullet Co. For loads at or over 1200 fps, I've had great success with Accurate #9, 2400, and 296/110. Any manual can give you good starting loads with these selections, and from my personal experience, you don't need much over 1200 fps out to 50 yds for eastern deer. HTH's Rod
