This is interesting. Guy made some slugs with JB Weld. Work pretty good. Sorta frangible so folks worried about over penetration might like these DIY slugs. Watch the video at the link.

Why experiment with strange homemade bullets? What if something goes wrong? I've heard that mud in the end of a shotgun barrel can make it explode. I've seen on YouTube people shooting CO2 cartridges out of a shotgun but you sure as heck won't find me doing stuff like that. I will stick with known and published loads loads.

A slug in a hull fired is not a barrel obstruction like you are hinting.
Probably could cast a slug out of concrete if you had to. Weight and dia. is the only concern.
Shooting is fun enjoy! ps

There was a long post a bit back about folks who loaded rifle bullets in shotguns. It seems to me that-absent a plugged barrel-about the only way to get in trouble with a shotgun is to fire explosive slugs and having a premature detonation.

What I'd love to know is where they got the silicon mold?

Those guys belong under the heading of "Hold my beer and watch this."

1. Rifled slugs are for use in smoothbore barrels... NOT rifled barrels - that's what sabots are for.

2. All their shooting was done at 10 yards.... a potato cannon is reasonably accurate at that range. Had they stretched it out to 50 yards or more, they would have exposed the terrible shortcomings of their homemade slugs.

3. Anybody want to venture a guess as to what that J-B Weld did to the rifled barrel? They even stated that it contained powdered steel.

Good question. The slug profile looks like a sabot slug. Frankly I would not expect any barrel damage after all steel shot. Might be useful for home defense, few homes have a clear shot lomger than 10 yards.

Not shaped like any sabot slug I've ever seen...... they all look like rifle bullets. That thing is shaped very much like a regular old shotgun slug. Couldn't see if it had a hollow base or not, but I doubt that it matters, since the J-B Weld is not likely to obdurate like a soft lead slug. And as to steel shot - the shot never contacts the barrel; it is loaded with a combination wad/shotcup. The only caveat with steel shot is too tight a choke, since there is no "give" to the steel as it passes through the constriction.

If you can do it that's a good reason to try it!

Some sabot rounds look like those in the OP's video. But I think they were shooting JB Weld slugs, some with bird-shot mixed in.

Shotgun slugs usually look like...

You learn something new every day. Never seen nor heard of anything like that before. To me, though, they sorta seem like the answer to a question that was never asked.
