Info on a 4" 22 SP101 HALF LUG!!!!

I just saw this on Gunbroker and it was just listed a few hours ago. It has a 600 dollar "buy it now" and if I am correct on what I read, a RARE one! Other 4" full lug 22 SP101 are going for MUCH more!

No dog in this fight, and if I had the money I would have already bought it!

I am guessing it will not last long

From the pictures it looks to be in excelent to LNIB condition but stainless guns can be cleaned up to look newer than blued guns that have seen the same number of rounds. These "half lug" Rugers sure are better looking than their full lug equivalents.

The $600 "Buy Now" price is plus actual shipping which is around $45 if he is willing to ship himself without going through a dealer on his end. Add your own FFL fees and tax and it's an expensive .22. It doesn't fit in my budget so I don't have a buying decision to make, but I'd hesitate to buy from this seller who has no feedback. That adds a bit of risk to an online transaction. I learned that the expensive way.

If a Ruger collector wants one that's not a bad price, someone will snap that up. Given that a new SP101 is about $550 or so, $600 for a rare half-lug .22 seems like a bargain.

I would rather pay less and just get a 4" full lug .22, but a .22 SP101 is one that I want BAD! I'm just taking a break from GB buying right now, and have decided to just stick with gun shows and shops for a while.

I may have to get a Single Six convertible to meet my needs for a Ruger .22 revolver for now. I use them as plinkers anyway, but a .22 SP101 would make a great "training" gun.

I still have my Ruger SP101 4" half-lug .22 that I bought new in 1996. I still have it and it's still in NIB condition. When I bought it I had been around to all of my local gun shops and most of them just had the full-lug model-except for one gun shop who had both the full and the half-lug. For me, it was a no brainer because the half-lug just appealed to me more and it's balance felt much better in my hand! I never shot it because I had a feeling that it was gonna be a collectible someday! Although I certainly have had an urge to shoot it, though.

I'd love to have a half-lug version to go along with my full lug model, if I can ever stumble across one at a realistic price. Rest assured, it will be shot. Often.

How do I know how many "lugs" my SP101 has? What is a lug?

A full lug is the shroud that encases the ejector goes the length of the barrel .

A half lug tapers in front of the ejector.

Aw now you've done it. I've just added an SP-101 Cal .22 to my must have list, but not at the end price of that one. I'm guessing I'll be checking the gun shows and local classifieds until one turns up; 4" or 3-1/16" will do just fine.

Good luck with that, the only way you'll happen upon one for less than that is if the seller doesn't know what he's got. They are quite desirable.
