I find 4227 leaves a lot of powder in my Bulldog's 2.5 inch barrel, and cylinder. Accuracy only adequate. I put it back on the shelf since I found some 2400.

was the ground hog cooked well done by the time the bullet hit?Bob Wright said:When I got my first .44 Magnum, a Ruger Super Blackhawk, I got to my loading bench. The powder of choice from the introduction of the Magnum was 2400, so i decided to try something different. I bought DuPont (then) IMR-4227 and went to experimenting.
After some trials, I settled on a load of 25.0 grs. IMR-4227 with the 245 gr. Keith SWC. Accuracy was very good, and when I checked my load with a chronograph it indicated 1399 F.P.S. average, though I fudged and called it 1400 F.P.S. With this load and that Ruger, I made what I call my best field shot, taking a ground hog at 110 yards.

. You could take a buffalo with that load. Like a small freight train!txpitdog said:4227 is a great powder for the 45-70 as well. I shoot a 300gr hard cast, and a stiff load of 4227 will push that sucker to 2215fps out of my 18.5" barrel.
