I've been thinking of buying a mini-14 for a while.

But here in California there was a bill that passed the legislature that would have banned sales of all semi-auto rifles with detachable magazines.

I could have bought before the end of the year, but then would have had to register the gun as an assault rifle and have severe limitations on how I could use it.

Well, the governor just vetoed that bill.

So, I will reconsider getting a mini-14 and hit the gun shops tomorrow.

He did sign a ban on lead hunting ammo beginning in 2019. I don't hunt so that one doesn't impact me.

Not sure what he did on the bill banning on-line ammo purchases -- I hope he vetoes that one also.

He also vetoed another bad one which would have limited private party sales of handguns not on the approved roster.

That would have been a bad one as only current production guns are on the roster so it would have hit collectors hard. Glad he vetoed that one.

Wish I could help you with some of the stuff you mention.....but I can't.
Far as California in general goes......if I was in your shoes, I probably wouldn't be buying a Mini anyhow.....veto'ed bill or not, ya still got's mag, ammo and other stupid restrictions to live with. And then what?....wait on the next bill to pass?....nope, not me.....I'd be spending that $700-$800 on a bus ticket to anywhere that I wouldn't have to pay taxes just so's I could be treated like a criminal.
