I went by the gun shop today and saw this. It's a BM-59, which is 1/2 Garand and 1/2 M-14 ,. After WW II the Italians developed this as their new selective fire battle rifle . This one is the paratrooper model and semi auto only . these are super rare and I've only seen 3 or 4 in person, but none of them were in this good of shape. This thing is cherry the finish on the metal is factory fresh, but all original and the only dings on the stock is from where the butt stock folds up against the fore end which is normal .this one has the grenade launcher sight and attachment on it . It's one really nice rifle and a great piece of firearms history .

thanks for posting....
that is one I could add to that "missed deals". it was probably 1980 and I picked a full stock one out of the rack of a local pawn shop and put it back. next week when I had cash it was gone. I seem to remember it was sort of expensive even back then, but it looked and felt so good to shoulder
 
As far as I know, all BM- 59s were all 7.62X51, that's what this one is and no I doubt I'll get to shoot it,I'd have to be there when Charlie makes a range trip and that's kind of a random thing.When he needs to test fire a few guns he makes a quick trip to the range.

Hey eveled, it's not for sale.The gun is out of time. I suspect the owner has either by accident or on purpose fiddiled with the gas cutoff for the gernade launcher and the piston isn't getting enough gass to run the bolt back .
One of these in this shape will bring 3,000 easy ,but because of the rarity and super condition of this one were he to sell it 4,000 would be a fair price ,like I said this gun is like New .I doubt this one was ever issued.
