I just got back from the flea market, where I paid $8 for "The Gat" 4.5mm air pistol, manufactured in England by T. J. Harrington & Son. It's a heavy, die-cast barrel-cocker, smooth bore and low velocity. The recessed muzzle allows it to shoot corks, as well as pellets and darts. Looks a bit like an Astra 400 with a very long barrel.

Interesting that you cock the thing by putting your hand over the muzzle and pushing it in. Kind of goes against everything you've been taught.

The spring is heavy enough that it's easier to push the barrel down on a hard surface. Pushing it on my bathroom scale, it registered 65 pounds. Definitely an adult toy.

So, I guess that inner barrel pops back out after it's fired? With 65 pounds of force you could just press the barrel against someone and pull the trigger without the ammo. I bet it would get their attention right quick.
