How to get Pearce Grips for the Ruger LCP? Not that easy..

Dear All,

First of all: nice to be here. Great Forum!!!

I am a German Citizen living in Peru (South America) and own a Ruger LCP.

Though I am quite happy with this gun, in particular for CC, the grip is definitely too short for my hands. :?
Therefore, I intended to purchase a grip extension, i.e. the “PEARCE GRIPS for the Ruger LCP”.

However, these Pearce Grips (or any other grip extension fitting to the Ruger LCP) are not available in Peru nor, as it appears, in neighboring South American countries.

I contacted Pearce Grip Inc. via email (they never answered) and several gun shops in the USA in order to find out, if they could ship these two little plastic pieces to Peru. However, US gun shops appear to ship only within the territory of the USA.

Next, I intended to contact US customs in order to ascertain if exporting these items from the USA is legal for a private person. US customs provided me with an obviously automatically generated answer, never responded to follow up inquiries and left me completely in the dark regarding my question.

Does anybody have an IDEA how I can get these Pearce Grips for my Ruger LCP???

Any FLASH OF INSPIRATION is welcome and highly appreciated. :idea:

Hi there. I don't know about Peru but I shipped some gun parts to Australia (whose gun laws are alot tougher than ours) last year no problem. I think you can find a country by country list of restricted items on the U.S. Postal Service website.

Getting the items legally into Peruvian territory is not the problem, i.e. importing these items is quite easy. I was more concerned about the question if it is legal to export these items from the USA to Peru. I came to this thought because US gun shops only ship within the US territory (which is logical for firearms but not that understandable for 2 innocent plastic pieces such as grip extensions.)

Nevertheless, if I understand you right it should be possible that, for example, a friend in the USA purchases the pearce grips in an US gun shop, puts these items into an envelope and sends it to Peru?

Oh, also I would recommend you try Ebay. I've seen alot of Pierce Grip products there. You may just want to keep asking sellers until you find one that will sell to you.

As for the legality, I'm not 100% sure, I handle shipping at work and UPS to S.A. isn't fun or simple. I know shipping to Uruguay is easier than Chile, much less paperwork and hassle, we've never shipped to Peru. Most shops probably don't even print their own shipping labels let alone know how to fill out the proper documentation to ship anywhere past US borders. I can't think of a reason as to why you couldn't legally get them though.

You can try this link and see what the restrictions (from USA to Peru) are. I looked myself at the Prohibited or Restricted Commodities and the Commodity Specific Stipulations and I couldn't see why not. My guess is just to not deal with orders outside the US.

I'd try eBay as well, just make sure you're getting the real deal.

Depends on your hand size, I find the Ruger extension to be just about right. I have tried a magazine with the Pearce extension, it didn't seem much better to me. The smallest the extension that I can be comfortable with makes the gun easier to carry, not so much to snag in a pocket.

Ruger does a) not provide the pearce grips and b) does not ship international.

The shops I found in Ebay do not ship international.

It might be a problem to ship them regardless of what service you use. It may not be possible without special documents. Here is the U.S. Postal Service's page for shipments to Peru:

One of the prohibited items:

"Arms and munitions including spare parts or other accessories and components."

I would imagine the grip extension is considered an "accessory or component."

The US Postal Service is among the cheapest but the hurdle I see is in how you declare the item. The only other people I can think of are DHL. You may try contacting them, they are expensive but might have some advice to offer.

Otherwise MJDs advice to contact Brownell's is a good idea. They ship internationally and can probably tell you if it can even be done.

This is also my concern. However, I feel it depends on the definition of what precisely are “spare parts or other accessories and components”.

As we know, these type of grips are simple plastic pieces which could also serve for a "toy". Therefore, I am quite sure that in several countries they would not be considered as a prohibited item. However, we do not know…

When I asked Brownells if they could specify the shipping costs more precisely (I thought of the possibility of adding some items), they did not even answer.
