What are we looking at there? I see an extended cardboard shade to keep out light. Kinda weird but shouldn't hurt anything. But what's up with the scope mounting. I think there is 2 rings there by why the heck all the electrical tape? Or is the front ring not there?
It is an SKS, that was clear from the first photo the news stations showed it. I was waiting to hear a correct from AK-47 to SKS, but never did. No one mentioned the aftermarket stock on the news. Until this photo I had no idea or function of the tape around stock and scope. Now guessing the scope has rings but no base. The shade belongs on the front lens or correctly the objective lens. There it would block glare if needed. A good bill on a ball cap will keep the rear lens clear from back glare. Overall, it's a nut jobs dumb ass sniper rifle and a lousy one at that.

If the tape is the only thing holding the scope on the CIAs not doing a very good job with recruiting radicals!
A real whing dinger snapper raffle. Accurate to something like 14 yards in the right hands(not mine since I still have uses for them). Bubba dun good when he smashed that one together.
I'd like to see them shoot it and see how long that scope stays in place.

At least he should have used Gorilla Tape instead of that stretchy electrical tape. The boy obviously needed a role model. :ROFLMAO:
The tape just covered the hose clamps so the shooter doesn't get 'road rash' while loading. Also helped if the 'hooky thing' that holds the receiver in the stock doesn't 'hooky' so good anymore. o_O

Potty mouth warning but this was a bit surprising.
The eyetube, is a 100-year-old idea (only made of rubber) and used on springfield and mauser sniper rifles, before they settled onto the idea of putting a long tube on the muzzle end. The blacktape was used to cover the sharp edges on the jubilee clips, and online is an analysis of it, roundabout the time some of the media began correcting it to sks from ak47 or ak-type; he said this style of scope securement was known to be in use in syria.
