ok here's the deal, I have a 480 Alaskan I've made and I need a good plinking load (26 gr. of lil`gun and 325 gr. is a little hot for me). I have some 275 gr. bullets and want a "light" load that wont hurt my hands....any suggestions?

You could always lighten up the load with the 325 gr. go to Hodgdons site and check it out. They are showing a load with Lil' Gun using 22.5 gr with jacketed 325 gr bullet. Not sure if yours is jacketed or cast

Unique. Alliant shows 13.0 for 1178 fps in a 9.3" barrel with 325 bullets. I use 10.0 with 400 cast and it is a pleasant load. Unique makes nice lighter loads. IMR 4227 seems to produce higher end loads with a slightly softer ignition feel to them. LG and 110/296 are going to be brisk any way you cut it.

63November 24.0 gr of 4227 shows 1295 fps with a 7.5" barrel at 32,600 PSI , as you said that would also be a milder recoil load than the 26 gr of Lil Gun which seem to be on the high end for that 325 gr Bullet.

Thanks for the info, I`ll load some up and I`ll let you know what happens.

My reload data comes from speer reload man. #14 26.0 of lil` gun and max is 28.0 with a 325 jhp bullet.

I have been running around 10 grains of titegroup under a 325 grain speer in my 7 1/2" 480. Recoil is comparable to light 357. I have not chronographed it but I should be getting around 1000fps. A little more velocity than a 45 acp with a bigger and heavier bullet.

With those 275gr bullets, 9.5 to 10gr of HS-6 will make a nice accurate plinking load. 13.0gr will put you up more toward 1000fps, it's a decent load but still manageable.
