I'm going to buy a new stock for my mini, and I read you need to transfer the internal heat shield to a new stock. I can't seem to find any directions on how to do so. Seeing I'm "mechanically challenged", how exactly do you remove the internal heat shield from the stock?
Thanks

At the mag well end, it slips over a small tab of plastic. Just use a screwdriver to slip it over that tab and slide it out the front.

If you're removing it from a wood stock, you need to remove the mag well liner first, then slide it out.

Depending on the stock you'll need to transfer the forend guard and the receiver's metal bracket. Just lift up the metal tab of the forend guard (shield) where it hooks into the bracket - just in front of the magwell. Bend it up then tap the sheild forward so it and the metal endcap come off. Unscrew the retaining screws and locking nut on each side of the receiver and that's it.

The parts are cheap, if you think you'll switch back & forth between stocks just buy another forend liner, metal bracket and retaining screws from Midway or Brownells - probably costs about $16.00 total.

I just ordered the magazine well liner (reinforcement), two screws, two washers, and the heat shield for a blued rifle from Ruger and the total with shipping was a tad under 30 bucks. I figure it is cheap enough and worth it to have a folder as well as the original wood stock ready to go. Robert
