Hornady American Gunner ?

Hodgdon has about 15 loads with the Hornady 125gr XTP bullet. From Start to Max loads.
This is probably more than you can find anywhere else.
Is this what you wanted or are you looking at some other bullet? :D

I am looking to duplicate the factory loaded .357 American Gunner ammo . by Hornady. I bought a box and like the group I got with it and being a reloader want to load it myself. thanks.

I have never heard of that ammo. so ....http://www.hornady.com/store/American-Gunner2

Looks like it uses the 125gr XTP bullet so that chart might be pretty useful. Pick the powder you think might give you the same result. 8)

AND FURTHERMORE, all of their ammunition is loaded into brand new UNFIRED brass. THAT makes a big difference as every time you fire a case it work hardens and that'll make a BIG difference in performance.
ALSO, all non-canister propellents are different that ANY you can buy, you will NOT find out what they are, and you'll not duplicate their loads as ALL are loaded to SAAMI pressure specifications NOT to velocities which will be near the desired performance on most days but NOT on all days. THINK about that !!!
For instance...there were ten [ 10 ] grades of BULLSETE propellent manufactured by Hercules and I imagine the same by ALLIANT. SO, which one of the ten is the one sold as canister grade ?

Hmmmm. Didn"t know about all the different powders, Guess I start trying some published loads .

When it comes to duplicating a factory load I have found that manufacturers often use a medium speed powder, one that is more economical than the slow powders. Try Hodgdon HS-6 or Universal, something like that and see how it feels to you. A faster powder might be HP-38/W-231, very economical to load. Accurate #5 might be another choice.

I have pulled the bullets from some factory loads to look at the powder. This Federal load is ball powder. The others are flake powders. Thats about all you can tell. :D
