I had one. It was okay. It had a fake pearl grips (it had the birdshead grip) & 4 5/8" barrel IIRC. It was an okay plinker. I bought it because there had been some copperhead issues here & I wanted something to run snake shot through. After dealing with several of them I came to the conclusion that a hoe was pretty good medicine for them. There was another gun I wanted worse so I sold it & a 20 gauge Mossberg to a guy I worked with.
My father-in-law also had one. He dropped it on it's side. The barrel came unglued. It would unscrew itself. I guess he still has it but he hasn't shot in a long time. They are okay for what they are but are not heirloom firearms.

Same with MN. Odd that all the plastic guns are OK.
I did buy a Bar Keep when they came out and a 22WMR cylinder. Later the Wrangler came in similar configuration but was limited and firgure it to be hard to find.View attachment 55529

Heritage will happily sell you a birdshead grip, and a selection of handles (skeeter skelton called them pants) but takes a cookiemonster size bite out of a benjamin.

Kind of ironic. I bought the revolver & some snake shot & I don't think I ever even shot any of it. I used a hoe, a string trimmer, lopping shears for limbs, my boot heel (that one was small) & whatever else was handy to deal with the copperheads but never that revolver.

I saw dad chuck a campshovel at a 10-footer that measured almost 6feet long, still have the rattlers somewhere

Not sure they're legal in Illinois.
Something about the alloy or metal they're made from having a melting point way too low.
Think other states don't allow them either.

Maybe check state laws or with a local FFL for more info. NJ and IL seem to have lots of similar wacky numerous anti2A laws.

I'm from NJ. They allow the alloy thing here. I bought a POS ( didn't know it back then) Bearman ( read re-named Ring Of Fire Cobra) Big Bore Guardian derringer back in the day that is a zinc alloy from a NJ brick and mortar. fully allowed. ( UPDATE: I did a lot of work on it, starting with the safety and working with the trigger. Now not a bad den weapon.).

Nothing at all wrong with Heritage, I have 4 Rough Riders and the Rancher, and they all function and fire just fine. And a few of mine have been shot A LOT! Now, IF you expect $600+ quality from an often well >$200 gun, then yes, you're likely to be disappointed.

It's important to remember that the Wrangler/Super Wrangler (Which are a step up quality wise IMO)...Wouldn't even exist at all, if it weren't for the success that the Heritage revolvers have had.

For those who are interested, there's a very informative book on the subject available on Kindle, and for a very reasonable price. I read it through in about an hour and learned a great deal...

In 1957, the steel, and the alloy lightweight, singlesix both cost 63$, the engraved steel at 150$. However, they shared parts interchangeability. Not so much with the wrangler, now.

Oh they did! No that you mentioned it. It did come with full grips and flag grips. Ordered the grips, round butt, and magnum cylinder at the same time.i had forgot it came like this. They came out with the Boot Barkeep after I bought this one and they started selling the part birdhead.

Last year I picked up on an All Heritage Rough Rider, Cover To Cover; Athlon put out a Premier Issue of Heritage Journal. Remembering that, i dug it up, it mentions the large part i had forgotton Saul Eig had in the history. 98 pages of promotion, glorification, and advertising.

As a RO at my club for many years, I have seen so many more Heritage on the range. And Happy shooters. I look at both of them as Plinkers for fun. I do have one that is 10 years old and has been a totally reliable shooter. And for $99.00 makes for a fantastic deal. If I were to buy another 22 cal plinker, it will be the Heritage. IMO a Best Buy product in that category.
Just took this from today at present time. I see no reason to spend more.

Had a magnum cylinder for one of them and wanted something like the Barkeep in magnum to just carry at times in the yard and woods. So I cut the barrel down on the Heritage. A beater I don't care if it gets wet or some rust on it.

Also have a stainless singe six convertible, a Wrangler birdshead and a Super Wrangler. I've also thought about getting another Super Wrangler, cutting the barrel down and putting a birdshead grip on it. But I hope Ruger comes out with a birdshead Super Wrangler.

My thoughts are that the Wrangler is better quality. A big point for me is that it also has a coil hammer spring and not a leaf spring.

Wrangler IS better. Some heritage are just as tight and slick. Not all! (Prolly, not many)

Love that birdshead grip. Back in the day, some eig &/or fie came with a heavier gripframe by way of having enough metal to bob down for a nice birdsead. I cut down a half-dozen of them over a coupla years, and carved up nice wood grips, some with righthand swell. Dont recall if these heavies fit current hrr, havent done one in 20 years.
Now, watch for an ebay run on the heavy grips!
Adit. This may honk-off some on this forum, but my second bearcat was a bad resto, a 5 foot gun but not a 2-foot'er. I bobbed it to a birdshead, too.

Having a couple this one is my favorite. Never had an issue with either, goes bang every time with acceptable accuracy at 25yds. for a short barrel fixed sight. Mag cylinder fits both frames without issue. Great trail piece too with a couple rounds snake shot.
