I am NOT a fisherman. I don’t like it typically. Im just not good at it so I don’t enjoy it. But my daughter wanted to go the other day so we loaded up and went to a nearby reservoir and set up near the spillway where there are rumored to be some big cats. We hooked up our rigs and baited the hooks with the stinkiest bait I could find (garlic and chicken blood) and we got started. Didn’t have much luck but we had a GREAT daddy-daughter time. She is growing up so fast so I have to do this any chance I get... reminds me of a country song. :)

We did manage to catch 3. Daughter snagged a couple but her little spinning reel didn’t have enough torque to keep em out of the rocks on the bottom and they got away. Good times!

This is the largest of the 3 we caught. :)

Any day with your children is well worth it. They grow up way to fast, enjoy it while you can. She looks she is enjoying being out with Dad.

catfish bait recipe
one can of baby shrimp with it's packing juice, two cups of cornflakes, 6 raw chicken livers, splash of strawberry soda pop if you need moisture
mash up the shrimp, corn flakes and chicken livers into a thick paste
take an old pair of hosiery and cut out some small squares of it. Put a dab of the bait mix in the netting of the hose and lash around a medium sized treble hook. You can make up a bunch of them baited up and then just clip a baited hook onto a small swivel clasp.
Tie down or hang on to your rod or you will lose it, this bait works good for bigger cats

It's not about the size of the fish, or the number. First time my dad took me fishing, I caught two trout, each about 6" long. But I was hooked for life, and remember everything about that day 63 years ago, even the shape of the big boulder I caught them under and their smell, and taste after my mother fried them in butter. We really couldn't afford butter, but for TROUT, we bought one stick.

(This was back when margarine came in a cellophane bag and was white with a little dot of Red Dye #3 in one corner. To get yellow margarine, you had to knead the bag gently until it was all mixed up and an even yellow. Kid's job.)

Keep it up; you'll both get hooked.

Good for her! Been a while since I've seen that fishing spot :) I know that at some times of the year, you could barely fit another person down there when I'd pass by. Always wondered if they ever caught anything

I'm betting your daughter will remember this day for the rest of her life -- these are some of the best memories! Kudos for being a great dad!
