Just won the auction on a bobbed hammer Service Six. I called Ruger and it letters as a GF-84NYCPD, shipped 7-87. According to information in the RENE, only 4 known. Now I wonder if I can find a box.

Welcome to the club!! :D.
Now you need to get a GS-83NYCPD to keep her company.

How close is your gun to mine if you don't mind me asking?

Mine;- GS-83NYCPD serial #162-40935

Heliman, that is interesting as I used to own that very same gun!

Of the ones now known (and there are now about 8 confirmed), that one is the very first "discovered" as far as RENE goes. I claim bragging rights to reporting it as the first NYCPD variant to RENE. According to my records, I got that gun from a shop near NYC back in 2005 and I sold it to a fellow in PA in 2007 after upgrading to this one:

Note the shipper in that pic says SPEED-SIX but the SN matches the gun. There is also a star on the shipper which corresponds to a star on the inside of the crane. That star marking turned out to have been the acceptance mark put on the gun by the NYPD armorer after inspection.

Did you get that out of PA, or had it traveled around some more since I sold it?

Neat score!

PA is where I got it. It has been on GB for about 10 days or so. No one else bid so I jumped on the bandwagon last Friday.

It's a small world, the Ruger nation. :D

OK, I search the completed auctions and found it.

Yup, Windber, PA is where it went when I sold it. The FFL handling the trade on the PA end was L&L.

Looks like it had been on GB for more than 10 days - the completed auction search shows it as being re-listed weekly since at least January.

But he lowered his asking price for the last 4 listings.

I'm mildly surprised there wasn't more interest. Seemed kind of unique to me at a livable price.

Well, okay! I got one with a single online auction bid a couple years ago. Letters as GF84-NYCPD too. Serial #162-40152 which is outside the RENE listed range. Never got around to telling Chad for updating--until now I guess. So is that 9 known and 8 collectors now?

Gosh guys that is what is very interesting about the RENE GUIDE....we get all excited about "ONLY 7 KNOWN" and post about our "RARE" find then 10 others chime in about the one they own and haven't "bragged" about.....next thing ya know there are over 20 reported and no one wants one anymore    that's why I never buy the updated lists....I like to keep thinking I have one of 2 known    see ya RR.

Yeah, I saw it but got side tracked by the GF-82 at half the price. As long as it's in the Ruger Forum family, we're good to go. Just can't pick them all up on my wages.

Heliman,
Please bring your new stuff by the Or. Arms Collector's show in Aug. Lovemydals and I will be set up there again this year. :D

Terry, I will do that! It will be nice to see you again. :D Wish you could make the Puyallup show next month. WAYNO and I are having a display table there, the novices that we are.

Dave

Heliman,
I really was hoping to make Puyallup but it just isn't working out. I'm still in N.C. and don't expect to leave for the West Coast until after Memorial Day. I am having a great trip and have met many East Coast Ruger Forum members. Joined 'Contenders" biweekly combat shoot last night and had a fun time.

You guys have a nice start to a collection - just need to put some labels on them so the public can see how rare they are. :D

Good evening everyone. New Ruger Forum member here. Found your site while doing a little research. Bought a GF-84NYCPD this evening....#162-40676. Has an "R" and a star in the crane. Will post pictures tomorrow. Sounds like a rare gun...so wanted to add it to the thread.

Ryan

Wow! Seven years and 524 production numbers later another one shows up. Pretty interesting and welcome to Ruger Forum, Ryan.

So......somewhere in the ensuing 7 years I picked up ser. no. 162-40087.
Are we passed the "7" known?

Wow!
Very illuminating (resurrected) thread!
Great pictures, as well, for the non-PBs that will still display on the forum.

Happy Rugering, everybody!

I have an 84. 162-41651. Got it on GunBroker from a dealer out of New York state. Would have some pics but haven't decided where I am going to move from Photo Bucket.
