Fun with a Stevens Favorite

Yesterday my nephew came up and as it often does, the younger generation thinks it can outshoot the older guys. So he had his Marlin 39 and I had my son's Stevens Favorite (he is 6 months old so he has a while before he gets to it). Anyway, my nephew had watched the Sharpshooter's special on the History Channel, so he decided to see who could shoot a playing card sideways. I had never done this before and I am not that great of a rifle shot. I can take the head off a cigarette with one of my revolvers, but at 10 yards, I could barely even see the card. But after 6 shots with the little .22 I creased the card and almost cut it in half. I am going to keep this card so that when my son gets older and misses something and blames the gun, I can show him this. I still can't believe I did it, just don't ask me to do it again.

I want of one those so bad... I have absolutely no use for it though.

About 12 + years ago,@ the Tulsa Fall Show I walked up to table on the upper level, & a seller had two tables covered with Stevens Favorites I have not seen that many together before or since & I asked him which one was his favorite & why? He reached over & picked up one made in 1901 w/round barrel he said it was all orginal & had the tang peep sight & was a better shot than he was, the bore was very good. So I purchased it from the man because I always wanted one but, didn't need one. I have sure enjoyed it alot.

My dad had an original when I was a kid. I wanted it bad. It was an anniversary model of some sort. Anyway it was very nice. He sold it somewhere down the line.

I have a friend that owns a Stevens 44 that he restored and chambered for .17 Mach2. It is a sweet little tree rat rifle.

Friend of mine had one of the originals when we were growing up. It sure was a lot of fun to shoot.

I think I'd have to shoot at an entire pack, strapped together, and pick out the cut card later, to get something like that. :mrgreen:

I saw programs on HISTORY CH. also 8) IMPOSSIBLE SHOTS I think is title of the show--- good programs maybe they will call you 8) nice shot fine 22 rifle.
