For sale is a .357 Blackhawk with a 6 1/2" barrel. I got this gun from the original owner who shot it a bit when it was new, then put it away for 40 years. Everything about this gun I figure to be 99%. The finish, the black eagle grips, and the box are all in nearly perfect condition. This beautiful gun has been converted and the original parts are not included. The orginal owners manual is included, along with the conversion kit manual and the original buyer's receipt. He paid $103.43 OTD on June 1, 1970.

I'm asking $425 shipped in the lower 48, $400 face to face OK in northern Illinois with valid FOID

Or, with conversion parts original to this gun, $550 shipped.

I'm sincerely sorry. I jumped before I read closely enough. I should have known the price wa so good but I can't use a converted model. I'm just glad it's just a little after 12:30 in the morning so won't mess up to many people.

Please ignore the trade offer in the PM as well

No harm done, Mr BeagleDog.

I know somebody out there has a parts kit on the bench just waiting for the right gun to put it into. This beautiful gun deserves to be made right again!

Thank you for the understanding. I guess I should have been in bed at that time of the morning instead of perusing the classifieds. Maybe I would have read better this morning after a good nights sleep

I have been looking for a cowboy revolver to go with my 3030 and this looks nice. I am showing my ignorance here but what does converted mean?

The thrid one on down.

A converted gun has had the transfer bar safety device added. What this means is you can have the classy looks of the three screw old model revolver, but can now safely carry it with a full six rounds. Collectors want them unconverted, shooters are ok with converted.

Don't want to sound too negative here, but honestly how can a three screw ruger be 99% if the lockwork parts that make it so desirable are missing? I'm serious, whats left of it may be 99% but the action is not.

Regards,

What do you think the value should be as it is and what would be the cost to return it to original?

Well pastorp, thanks for pointing that out. I just didn't realize that a 40 year old revolver with a mint finish, still living it its original box was undesirable. I don't know where I get such silly ideas, but I thought it was a nice gun. Just to be fair to all the members, how should rate it? 90%? 80%? 50%? Please let me know and I'll change my description to whatever you suggest.

Thanks,

Clyde

Oh my gosh why is this still here? I love it, i'm just broke  It'll sell now that i'm looking at it (if not hit me in a month)

Y'know Clyde, he may have a point there - The only thing I believe I've ever seen that was still 99% after 40+ yrs was Christie Brinkley. Just sayin'.....

I mean, I haven't examined the gun itself, or Christie Brinkley, for that matter, but the finish looks pretty doggone close to 99% in my book! Of course, I'm just an old, short, fat, bald, stupid machinist from the middle of nowhere, so what do I know?

Wait - book -might have something there! In my short, fuzzy memory, I don't believe I've ever heard of anyone downgrading the finish on an OM because of the lockwork being converted. The price, yes, but not the condition. Perhaps it should be an automatic 10-15% downgrade???? I jest wonder what RENE has to say about that 1? Durn Bill Ruger's lawyers!!!!!!

Which brings up another question - IF a feller bought this beauty, and acquired the required 're-conversion' parts, would that bring it back up to 99%, providing the screwdriver didn't slip and gouge the wanna be 99% finish on re-assembly???? Is it possible to regenerate condition, kinda like botox(etc...) on a starlet? :? Or would that make it 110-115% condition -better than new- because the transfer bar safety parts would be included? But the re-finish/re-blueing of an irreplaceable original factory finish wouldn't qualify? Nuts, I'm so confused....

But, to be honest, if I had the disposable income at this point in time, I'd buy the durn thing, so I wouldn't have to keep looking at the gorgeous finish on that beautiful gun, at least on a computer screen. Even tho it's been 'morphodited'. And the Mayans say the world's going to explode next year.

That's a jewel Clyde - stick to your guns! I guess you could buy the parts, convert it, then bump the price up another $100-$150, and nobody would ever know she'd been a cheap tramp at 1 time. No, the gun, not Christie!!!!!

Bump for a very fairly priced Blackhawk I'd like to own! I can't believe it's lasted this long, but it isn't exactly the best time of year for toy buying, now is it? At least for those of us that don't have bank accounts (or anything else, for that matter! :( ) like Christie Brinkley.....

I like it but I also like to shoot my guns and I think this one's too nice to shoot. I guess I'm just not a collector.

Seb. Well put. I have seen the price lowered because of the lack of the original parts instead of the new model ones. But I have never seen the condition of a revolver reduce percentage wise because of it. Super slight turn line might drop it to 98 for someone who is a real collector, but it looks damn fine to me. If I were not still recuperating from just buying a first year, 80 per cent model 1892 Winchester, I would have jumped on this one. Just my unexpert opinion. Hank

Ok, we'll see if this interests anyone. This gun came to me with the original conversion parts still sealed in the Ruger bag. My plan had been to use the parts to un-convert a beautiful Flat Top I have. I guess it is more logical for these parts to remain with their original gun. $550 shipped for this great package.

Collectors want them unconverted, shooters are ok with converted.

I think that statement is overly broad. I don't own any "safe queens." I consider myself a shooter of all my guns. And I've bought plenty of OM's that weren't in very good shape to use as shooters. But personally I only buy the ones that have the original lockwork. I just prefer it. It's closer to the original Colt manual of arms. If I want 6 shots with hammer down, then I'll just buy/use a NM.

And, IMO, putting the original parts back in this package should sell it much faster!
