In mid-1956 a serial numbering error took place on the "flattop" .357 Blackhawks. An extra "1" was added to the front of the serial numbers and about 800 guns were made before the error was noticed and corrected. This numbering error was noted by Rugerphile and author Bill Ross, and mentioned in his book. The guns so numbered have come to be known as the ROSS Flattops, and are quite collectible.

These guns are essentially normal Type 1 guns that happen to have serial numbers that would have indicated manufacture during the Type 2 period in 1958.

Easy boys! Make me feel guilty and Sam feel bad. We have seen them sell for more and for less! Cheap is a relative term. Sam you are a pleasure to deal with and a gentleman. Thank you and speaking of thanks. May we all remember how blessed we are this Thanksgiving. Also Ale good job on the explanation well said.
