From conversations I've had and followed here over many years I gather that there are lots of other men on the forum in my situation when it comes to clothing size. Hope this helps somebody. I'm 6 feet 5 inches give or take, and was 308 pounds 3 1/2 months ago. Down to 269 now on my way to 215, since the surgeon said that's pretty much all that can be done for my spine damage. But what's nice is that on Amazon of all places I found a clothing line called Wrangler Riggs Work Wear, which I'd never heard of until I happened on the brand by accident. The stuff comes in big and tall man sizes at prices not out the roof. Heavy-made and durable, this is work stuff like logger "utility" jeans with double front panels down the front, heavy duty t-shirts and long sleeve shirts, and stuff I prefer to wear. I'm pleased with the sizes they have and will be getting jeans and shirts to fit better when I get where I have to go. Additionally, we have Amazon prime TV since leaving cable, and most stuff I get is free shipping. Thankfully I can buy "off the rack" all the underwear socks and shoes I need, but that's it. Hope this doesn't sound like some ad, but I wish I'd heard of Riggs brand years ago. I've been happy with the stuff.
Now I've listed all the clothes online I've shrunk out of LOL. Don.
Anyway

one of my favorite magazine writers, Stanley Bing, used to say he wasn’t fat, rather he was “successful.” I always liked that line. I’m fairly successful as well. I haven’t heard of the Riggs jeans you are talking about but I do like Wrangler Jeans.

The last pair of jeans I bought was Levi raw denim. Please don’t ask me to explain what raw denim is, but supposedly it’s more durable, somehow. The instructions say to wear them for a year before washing them. If they get stinky, put them in the freezer and it kills the bacteria. Sorry to digress.

Hey! Congratulations on the weight loss! That’s awesome to lose so much in 3 1/2 months! Keep it up!

Tallbald: thanks for that info. Will check it out.

I have a pair of Riggs shorts. Very heavy denim with leather pocket edges including extra leather patch on front pocket to clip a tape measure. Built in hammer loop and a few extra pockets for a rule or other stuff. I didn’t know they made a whole line of clothing. I don’t care what anybody says my jeans go in the washer not the freezer.

What does freezing do for mud, dirt and grease from an honest day's work. A few dead skin cells don't really matter much.

Hi,

Sounds like they dug up some of the material 501s were made of when Levi Strauss still made 'em in San Francisco: it would take two or three washings just to get them to where you could wear 'em without giving yourself a rash. Then they lasted forever.

I haven't seen anyone's jeans made of such good material in the usual places I shop since Levi's went offshore. Maybe some of the specialty makers still do use it?

Rick, if you google raw denim there are some American made brands but they are expensive. The Levi jeans I bought were made in Mexico. They do make some in the US, but only “skinny jeans” (yuck!)

But yes, they are supposed to last a very long time.

I got stuff from Duluth Traders that lasted for a long time....Their Firehose pants stayed and stayed...
I've been using Riggs for a while, they are the same as Firehose pants without the high price, including Carthart pants.
I have a local place that sells them for$45 (last price I paid)
