Looking to buy a Ruger No. 1 in .243 (or similar) for my 9 year old daughter. She will be 10 next year and can hunt deer. She is left-handed and I figure the No. 1 will be a good rifle for her (and me too :D ). Since I don't have a No. 1 anymore it is a good reason to add one to the gun safe.

If I had my way, the ideal rifle would be used but not abused. The condition is not as much of a factor as is the shootability and price.

Thank you for any responses.

Oh man, I am a lefty too, and although I just got my 243, I would be willing to try and work out a deal with you to help a fellow lefty hunt. Mine is a 1-B stainless laminated model, so it probably isn't anything she's going to tote through the woods and shoulder by herself. It would be awesome in a stand though or some other place she could shoot from a stationary position. It's essentially brand new with only a partial box of Corelokts through it.

If you're interested, PM me and we'll go from there.

The shop I frequent has this one: http://www.ktpguns.com/interior.php/pid/28/gid/167562

Thank you everyone for the responses. Since she won't hunt until next year I was hoping to locate one in a lower price range that is still serviceable. I know this might be wishfull thinking but I won't know until I try.

These rifles are definitely worth consideration.

Since my three youngest are all in college I have a cut-down butt stock with a kickeze pad that I would be willing to part with. Let me know if you are interested.

I had a #1A in .243 that was a very good rifle. 100gr Nosler Partition Federal Premium ammo really performed well out of it, so did 55gr Nosler Ballistic tips over a case full of Varget, ran 3965fps for me

My youngest daughter hunted with it when she was 12, a little heavy to hold up without a rest for her

Wow Don,

You really had those 55 grainers cranked up!

Thank you for all the responses and ideas/suggestions. Still trying to decide and hoping for a cheap No. 1.

I've got a barreled action from a No. 1 RSI in .243 that might interest you.

I bought the gun for the wood and a high hope that the surface rust would come out after trip back to Ruger. The rust turned out to be pitting and something that Ruger couldn't fix.

They reblued and tested the rifle (safe to use) and sent it back to me. The pitting isn't deep and is only on one side.. course the pitting is also freshly reblued, so it doens't look bad, it just isn't pretty either. If memory serves, I think the polish and rebluing of the barreled action was something along the lines of $165.00....

I am keeping the wood, but had planned on selling the barreled action off...

The RSI with an AH forearm would be a nice light rifle for a younger shooter. I would probably come up with a pretty decent price for the barreled action and I would be willing to bet that some other folks on here have a buttstock and an AH forearm you could probably get on the cheap also...

Something to think about I guess... If you're interest, I can get some pictures sent of to you with a initial price (subject to counter offers, cause I'm a person who believes in price bickering...lol.. 8) )

Thanks to the great members of this forum I am on my way to having a No.1 in .243 for my daughter.

I am getting the barreled action and now I am looking for a forearm. I am thinking an A would look good on it. Anyone have one they are willing to part with? It doesn't have to be pretty, just functional.

Thanks again to the best forum and it's members on the Internet.

Glad you found a rifle for your daughter.
I think your best bet for a forearm is one of the aftermarket stock producers: Treebone, Gunstocks Inc., Wenigs, CPA, etc. as finding a factory 1A forearm in any condition is going to be difficult or a long wait.

Just wanted to post up that Rugnelli has been a pleasure to deal with. He's great with communications and prompt with his payment....

Thanks Rugnelli.... Hope you find someone with a forearm so you can finish the rifle for your daughter...
