As the title says, wanting to purchase a S&W Model 27, 4 inch barrel. Prefer a pinned barrel but will consider all offerings. Please PM asking price and pic. Thanks in advance, Lee

Item has been found. Thanks for all the help.

A 4" 27 P&R is a fairly scarce bird, even rarer in 4 or 5 screw versions. I had a 4" 27-2 I bought new in 1979 but traded it away a year or two later not realizing what I had. Good luck on your search. Might check Smith-Wessonforum.com. They know a bit about those over there.

Also,if it has to be a 27, I understand. There's naught that compares. But a 4" 28 is for practical purposes the same gun, much more plentiful and not quite as spendy.

I thought I had one to offer, 27-2, excellent condition, made in 1973. But apparently it lives in the safe so much that I've forgotten what it looks like. 6.5" barrel.... not 4".

6GUNSONLY is right, the 4" is rare. And M28's are nice guns... since they were made as duty guns, most are 4", some 6". I have one of each of those... but one is none... can't sell those. You used to be able to find them at gun shows on the used cop gun tables for $300 or less. Not anymore! (Before I get called on it, yes there were some 5" M28's made... I've never seen one, I assume they are all deeply embedded in serious collections. And now that we are deep in the weeds, yes there were even some 8 3/8ths. Fewer than 100 made. Never seen one of those either.)

We aren't supposed to "discuss price" and whether it is appropriate in "for sale" posts... but you don't have something you want to sell... you are looking. So it seems like it would be OK.

As a long time S&W collector, as somebody who really loves the N frames... it is getting harder and harder to find a really nice N frame from the P&R timeframe for less than $1000. If you see one you really like for $800-850... get that wallet out. I personally wouldn't sell a 27 or 29 or 57 for less than 1k. Even then I would have to think about it... it is a lot harder to sell a gun when you know you can't just go down to the gun store and buy another one. The grand old revolvers are too prized by the gray beards like me... we hold onto them. I've heard it said that 10-20 years down the road when all the Boomers are dying off... there will be a real boom of sales in things like this. So younger people can hold out waiting for the big sale!

Maybe i can help you since you like N frames. he has a 27-2 6'' and 27-3 8 3/8 barrel bl. Both are under 1000.00 per gun and are in great condition. If you would like his ph # i'll send it to you.
