It’s a very powerful movie. It’s actually fictional but gives you an idea what’s going on across the border along with many locations in the US. Also shows how weak we are at being willing to deal with it. Years ago I went to Juarez regularly.? You couldn’t pay me to go there. If my gun isn’t welcome, neither am I.
Anyway IMO well worth watching. Very difficult to to win a war with people who are smarter than we are, but have no rules. We have way too many rules, but few are effective against people with none. There’s a scene with an incident in a bank. Good example of how they beat us.

Bonito Del Toro, “You need to move to a small town where the rule of law still exists. You will not survive here. You’re not a wolf. And this is the land of wolves now.”

Those places are getting harder to find!

I too have lived on the Southern border many years. I will not even visit now.
About 20 years ago I went to Tucson AZ to see a friend and we went to Bisbee where I used to live. I tried to look up some old friends a 3 of the 5 I wanted to see were dead due to drug violence. I don't know if they were involved in drugs or just got caught in the cross fire.

When the Iran-Contra affair went south, the US government cut back on covert and clandestine drug intervention activities in central and south America. HW reinstated some covert assets. The clandestine side of things moved more to an anti-terrorism tasking, which is how it's supposed to be.

Then came Clinton. All military intelligence and operations covert and clandestine activity was halted. Overt activities were changed to strictly training operations in limited capacity.

I retired from Government Services during the Clinton administration. My book originally had 1057 pages. The approved version after censorship for "classified or sensitive content" = 31 pages.
