Where can I buy some flint for using on steel to start fires? I've ordered some over the internet but it wernt no good.
 
With its volcanos, Oregon should have some deposits of obsidian. That should work just as well. And make sure your steel is high-carbon and properly hardened. You won't get a spark from soft, low-carbon steel.
