First Year Made 1959 4.5/8 Single Six,

I found a First Year Made Single Six, they First started showing up at SER# 134XXX, this one is SER# 134190. (Dougan book) I bought this gun for the BOX! and parts. as I have a very LOW # gun for it.

So Ill sell the gun and owners man, Gun is a nice clean Single Six, very light wear, clean, nice owners man. date 1959. grips are like new, Black Eagle's are very nice........ you be very happy owning this gem! NICE GUN!

here's the bad news, Its converted and im keeping the parts.....and box.

yes it is nicer then you think, clean gun, front sight is the slanted, serated type, the gun is right for the 1959 time frame.

rear sight is the fix, like they all where back in the day.

how is it attached? I have never seen a single six with a sight like this.

Dougan shows the simple "half-round" front sight on Single-Sixes up until the introduction of the Super Single-Sixes in 1964. This one appears to have a custom front sight as it is not even the one used on the Supers.

Even after the Supers came out the "fixed sight" guns still used the "half-round" front blade.

I have never seen a front sight like that on any of the hundreds of single sixes I've seen and I haven't read any reports of them. It's a very nicely done sight, maybe both of yours were done by the same 'artist'. 'Lunch box' guns done by a Ruger employee???

A front ramp is not factory original unless you could order some custom sight back then, but I never heard of that option.

The only sights that I have seen in the old three screw single sixes were Micro Sights, and do not quite have that configuration. Of course I have not seen one of every one made, but I have two with the Micro sight. Just my two cents. Does not mean it ain't so, just that I have never seen one.lol Hank

if current front is attached in the original scallop cut of the barrel , it would be better to find an original ruger front sight and bring it back. but may be hard to tell , it could also have a longer or different shape cut in the barrel under the ramp if its custom? almost have to remove one of them to find out. may be you don't want to do that either.

It needs a call to Ruger to verify the barrel length.

I suspect the barrel was shortened to 4 5/8" and that's the reason for the different sight. Very few shortened barrels that originally had a blade front sight, have a new mortise milled and the blade sight replaced.

I think that something to explore, IE does this ramp sight have a mortise base bottom that fits/sits in the original half round front sight slot? Does Records say it is an RSS5 or RSS4? Apparently it came in an RSS4 bo, right?
