You couldn't pay me to belong to AARP. :evil: I joined AMAC, which has all the same benefits and supports good people and causes (and our 2A), unlike AARP.

I contributed something to some semi-conservative cause, and now I get junk mail from republicans, on top of the junk mail I get because my ex-wife contributed to some Bambiist causes. Now that it's colder, it all goes into the wood stove. I never gave out my email.

Once, a few years ago, I made a donation to St.Jude's hospital (one of my daughters was in a marathon to benefit the hospital). I can depend on at least two donation requests per month now. We have a 'recycle' bag and a paper shredder. They both get lots of use.

My wife used to donate to every charity that ever mailed her anything. I finally convinced her that they sell their donor's info to other charities, which is why we were constantly bombarded by them. Once I persuaded her to either stop entirely or else donate anonymously, the junk mail and spam became much, much less.

They literally paid me to join. My then insurance company gave me a discount of
almost $100/yr, if I was a member. I joined for (IIRC) about $25, and have never
paid AARP since.

I find their politics appalling! But when you can make over $50, just to join . . . . .
(department of redundancy department, I made ONE payment only) AND that
discount continued until I moved here in '18.

I'll also mention that they are part of the Medicare thingie I'm signed up with
and my . . one . . prescription (LISINOPRIL) has not cost me anything for over
two years now. OH, and the PCP co-pay is zero.

I dislike them intensely, but when I have more money in my pocket by maintaining
a "membership" . . . . :roll:
