I wonder if DNR asked farmers' opinions? Maybe set up a depredation compensation fund?
We may find out how it goes here in north MO soon. Less than a month ago, a trailcam picture was posted of a cougar about 12 miles from where I'm sitting. Considering the value of cows and calves, there won't be much latitude for 'kitty snacking' on livestock. In fact, just last week the entire area of rough ground and brush near where the pic was recorded burned so gotta wonder if that was meant to either move kitty along OR destroy the evidence?

The way I understand it is if they admit that they are living in a certain state that state has to budget money for preservation purposes 🤷

Save the cougars!

No cougars here but I have been hearing/seeing reports of Florida panther sightings for years. I saw a post on a local F-book page less than a week ago with a pic of one. People still say they are not here.

Like southwest NYS! First the coyotes got out of hand, then the "wolves" appeared. DNR claimed the walked across the ice from Canada. Then "bobcats" appeared. DNR claimed they migrated up from Pennsylvania. Coyotes are under control, wolf howls died down and the cats keep getting bigger!

Around 2001 I was west bound on US 2 in the UP of Michigan headed towards Escanaba when a cougar ran across the road about 4 cars in front of me. So I can believe they are in the UP.
