Eagle watching

Being cooped up at home because the .gov says so gets old – so good time to go Eagle watching. This is the migratory season for Bald Eagles here in Wisconsin along the Mississippi and there are plenty around. Bird watching seems like a good couples sport to enjoy nature

Went to a place a few miles north of us and the wife & I sat in the car watching Eagles fishing and then sitting in trees ripping the fish into bite size morsels. Most we saw was 8 Eagles in one tree. That tree had 5 mature and 3 juvenile birds.

I was surprised that all the fisherman we saw were on the bank, no boats out yet. I guess we are at that point were it is too warm for ice fishing, and not warm enough to enjoy boating.

I have yet to come across anyone who would eat a condor....

A bald eagle at Reelfoot Lake, NW Tennessee:

Eagles aren't dumb. They mate for life, but will spend their winters apart. Often the male will winter at Reelfoot Lake, while his spouse winters at Sardis Dam in Mississippi.

This time of year the Eagles are doing their spiral flight mating thing. A couple of years ago my grandaughter and I saw 68 in one group along the Kaw River in west side Kansas City Metro.

I can tell you've never been to Alabama have you.

Many eagles winter in Des Moines, IA where the Des Moines River and the Raccoon River come together. I've watched them many times along the rivers within yards of peoples homes. Cool birds.

The eagle gatherings in SE Alaska are something to see. Here's an old video of one near Haines just up the channel from Juneau. It's an old film not great quality but still something to see.
