I dipped my toes into the suppressor world in the Spring. At the time I made sure I could use the 9mm size on my Contender in .357 Max. All was good. Well, I finally decided to try it on the Max last week. Threads are wrong. So I do all the research and figure out what I need. Make a special trip to the shop. Of course this shop is nowhere near any of my regular travels. I pick up the piece I need and head home. As I go into the gun room and little mental nugget comes to life. "Isn't there a box like this in the safe?" VIOLA! Like magic the exact piece I need is already in the safe. Apparently I planned ahead. Off to the out of the way shop I go.....


I should know better. I did a similar thing searching for some obsolete bullets I liked. Almost spent way too much for some when I found four boxes tucked away. Come to think of it, they were for the Max too. I'm beginning to see a pattern.

Digging through my cluttered workbench looking for my recoil lug jig as I plan to remove a barrel from an action. Not found & it's bothering me a lot, as I go anal about misplacing things. Feared I might have to clean off my bench, but where would I put it all?
Woke up this AM, it still on my mind & hell bent to find the tool. I hadn't gone to the shop yet, I texted my rifle builder bud about the torque setting he used when he screwed a new barrel on for me & told him my plans. He sent me the numbers along with the statement of; you know your lug jig is at my house don't you? I could have hugged him, mystery solved. But still frustrated about the Headache I'd created.

Yep, a club member. Can quote the points gap &/or dwell for a small block Chevy from 55 years ago but now loose something every other day. Kind of weird ain't it.

....Off the top of my head, that would have been .018 And 28-32 degrees, right?...same as most other GM V-8's from the points era that required an allen wrench for adjustment. I'm saying "most" because a few optional engines used a dual point distributor, and those were an entirely different animal to deal with....or leastways, that's how I remember it. On the other hand, I'm more experienced with older Fords than Older Chevy's, so I could be wrong.
